Too bad no Christmas present for Canada's commies.
THAT doesn't break my heart. I was hoping for a little something under the tree for western farmers though.

Like the removal of the wheat board.
This helps farmers, how?

The proroguing of Parliament is unprecedented. It also potentially sets a dangerous precedent for our Parliamentary Democracy. If you're gonna lose, shut down parliament...

Of all the arguments on both sides, what I find to be the most dangerous and disingenuous is Harper's continued divisive attitude that could spark another National Unity crisis. Today Harper said he wouldn't be beholden or give a VETO to the Bloc, but that IN FACT is exactly what Harper has done to pass his last two budgets. Provide concessions to Quebec in order to get Bloc support on their budgets.

Harper said he is now inviting the other parties to present their proposals...Well that's what they had been doing and Harper chose to ignore the other parties and push forward his own agenda. During the last election he stated that he would govern like he had a majority even if he was elected with a minority. Well now because of that attitude we must now wait another 2 months before appropriate economic measures can be taken.

Also we already know what the two main measures he's looking at:
personal and corporate income tax cuts.
Well personal income tax cuts won't help ANYONE who is out of work and corporate income tax cuts ONLY apply to companies making a profit, so therefore it won't prevent ANY businesses who aren't making a profit from going under.

I've missed all the wheat board stuff but the last time the cons were attacking the Liberals over it, it was because the Liberals were not disbanding the WFB that the farmers were demanding.

I take that wasn't true? Do the bulk of the farmers support the wheat board?

Like everything in this country it is split. I think a few more are against it, but the loudest voice are the ones that are for it. They like the idea of set prices.

This is a good article for a summary. The rest of that website is full of info on the subject. This website was put together by a group of farmers, not some political party.

Farmers elect a majority of pro wheat board members every time there's a wheat board election and it's not due to a lack of anti wheat board canidates, that's for sure.

Of course the perogies have the prorogue cheese filling with a Liberal application of sour grape cream.

Exactly. You can prorogue government but can you prorogue a fiscal crisis? While Harper fiddles Canada burns. The very reason for this crisis to begin with! So now every time a PM feels he can't pass the house he just hits the pause button? Harper is being given a mulligan but it is not the GG who he owes his political soul to it's the Canadian people and he had best make good on his good fortune and not blow it again.

I see no reason to think Harper will be humbled or that in January his budget will pass. This prorogue my allow cooler heads to prevail for now but it has only postponed the inevitable.

Maybe as it plays out the Liberals will back down once they see how much the nation doesn't support them or their actions.

Or maybe it will extend this crisis, the dollar will tank and we will be in deep recession with thousands out of work and a constitutional crisis to boot!

Cut the knot!

Or maybe Harper will finally grow a pair and realise that you have to be somewhat conciliatory in a minority government situation. When you actually have a majority, that's when you can stick you opponents face in the mud.
