I read the article and all McGuinty seems to be advocating is a change in the current wealth redistribution policies. Saying "take the brakes off our economy" doesn't really fit that position well, and, in fact, strikes me as a non-sequitur.

CommanderSock CommanderSock:
Easier said than done. 12 million Ontario vs 3 million in Alberta. If Corporate taxes are lowered, services go down too, if services go down, poverty will sky rocket, with that, comes crime. More criminals, more people in Jail, more law enforcement needed etc.

You got a little spot right there I don't follow. Why do services go down if corporate taxes go down? Don't you have wasteful government spending to cut?

The federal and Ontario governments have signed a deal that commits $6.2 billion for roads, bridges, broadband internet and other infrastructure improvements in the province over the next six years.

Lawrence Cannon, federal minister of transport, infrastructure and communities, announced Thursday morning that the federal government will provide $3.09 billion of that money under Building Canada, a national plan launched in November, and Ontario will match the funding, which will be distributed through to 2014.

"A modern infrastructure is key to provide essential services to Canadians such as clean drinking water, clean air and green energy, modern roads, bridges and overpasses, strong borders and congestion solutions," Cannon said at a news conference in London, Ont., that was also attended by federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and Ontario Infrastructure Minister George Smitherman.

Cannon indicated the money was also intended to boost the struggling Ontario economy, which shrank 0.3 per cent during the first quarter, according to provincial government figures.

"We are ensuring … all Ontarians a more competitive economy, stronger communities, a cleaner environment and a more prosperous Ontario," Cannon said.

Smitherman said the investment in Ontario's infrastructure is "much needed" and the deal "has been a long time coming."

Priorities for the new infrastructure money include:

* Improvements on Highway 11/17 from Thunder Bay to the Manitoba border.
* Expanding rural broadband internet coverage in southern and eastern Ontario.
* Rapid transit in the Waterloo region.

Most of the money will go toward large-scale projects, but $362 million has been reserved for projects in communities of less than 100,000 people.

ahh poor whining greedy bastard.Look in the mirror it's your own damn fault your economy sucks.

How is it that our economy is Dalton McGuinty's fault? :?

how or since when is a premier not responible for his provinces own economy ? honest mcguinty is like an expert at blaming everyone else for like everything and then doing nothing himself.

the economy is partly his fault cause he is the premier and the one running the show and bring in budgets for the province of onatrio . he sets things like tax levels for businesses and brough in health premiums that have cost the average employee thousands of dollars which i'm sure must of been great for the ontario economy .

if he keeps it up the province will be ruined by the time we finally get rid of him .

While I agree something should be done re climate change, paying people to offset carbon use is like an alcoholic paying somebody to go to AA meetings while quaffing a 40 oz of vodka. Totally silly.
Dion's plan is pure tax, no reductions, no anti-pollution measures, just us poor plebs paying out more for the stuff we need.
Baird is right.
But I don't see anything really useful coming from the Tories.
I hope their plan is more than just pointing out how crap Dion's plan is.

Thats not the only funding that gets little to no media attention, what about the city of Toronto itself which gets federal funding that most other cities can only dream about:

$120-million to the Canadian Television Fund
the Toronto International Film Festival collected $25-million
over $24-million was handed to the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization
and another $21-million to the Toronto Harbourfront Centre
the Greater Toronto Airports Authority obtained $18-million
and $17-million went to Historica Foundation of Canada

You don't hear much about those either.
