Jesus Christ, do people just decide to reply to news articles from reading the headline alone and imagining what it may be about?

romanP romanP:

Are we going to go through this all over again?

Cold weather alerts are for homeless people.

Homeless people who.. likely won't get them, because they're homeless. :/
The people who run shelters and other services for the homeless will get them, though, and prepare for the harsh conditions - like it says in the article.

Global warming doesn't mean winter instantly disappears. We're being affected by la Nina right now, which makes winters colder than usual. If this had been a winter ten years ago, the temperature would be more like -50C rather than -30C.

Got proof of that?...If it was -50 it would have broken every record in the region.

Reading and understanding the context of a news article beyond the headline constitutes a "holier than thou attitude"?

My comments were directed at mtbr and romanP - both made condescending comments about people from Toronto, demostrating they did so without actually clicking the link to read what the headline was about. I don't recall mentioning jokes about "GW" at all.

I'm concerned about people insulting others out of ignorance, not homeless people in the cold - the shelters are there to be concerned with that - and it seems you're the one with the holier than thou attitude.

Don't be so quick to jump on your high horse and assume I never read the article. The article contains references to the temps across Ontario, those were the points I made reference to you. If you don't like my comments don't read them. [but]

Yep. It is. In a typical winter if you go outside without gloves then five minutes later your hands freeze and fall off.

Right now if you go outside without gloves then five minutes later just your fingers and thumbs freeze and fall off.

That's because it's warmer, see?

That doesn't change the fact that the alert serves specifically to boost services available to the homeless.

Oh, and I'll read whatever I want, and post whatever I want.

I'll admit I never bought a homeless person a sandwich or a coffee but I do what I can with what I got.
The homeless is a big problem in Canada,I've posted articles about people dieing up north for the same reason this winter and got no responses.I figure the best I can do is raise awareness of the problem yet it doesnt seem to concern some untill the weather hits -30 and the news. In the north it is a weekly thing, people are found froze cock stiff every week.
I know you participate in habitat for humanity which is a good thing but doesnt address the problem right now of people sleeping and freezing to death in the streets.if that's a holier then thou attitude I accept it.

Dont worry about the shelters, they dont need the media to tell them when cold weather is coming.
