Conversation overheard today in the Kelowna development approvals office today:

"Hmmm, maybe we never should have built all those luxury homes in a forest that's tinder-dry in a good year and one that was primed to spontaneously combust in a severe drought year like 2023. Like, it was pretty much inevitable that a disaster like this would happen a hell of a lot sooner instead of later, given the drought pattern we've been in around here for the better part of the last twenty years."

"Sorry, could you repeat that? I wasn't paying attention because I was too busy approving all these house-building permits for new mini-mansion development in what's left of the forest in West Kelowna. Can I borrow your rubber "approved" stamp? Mine is getting worn out."

And the beat(ing) goes on. :|

We've got people in Scotch Creek. One is a chem trails convoy chance and zero chance he is going to listen to any authorities telling him to evacuate.

Altready seen the snivelling on another site about Evac order "mandates" and how Trudeau is to blame for the fires....

Seriously? Complaining about being encouraged not to die?

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

They want to protect their own property more than they want to protect their neighbours'.

Either that, or these idiots think they're Superman and can do a better job fighting fires than the actual trained professionals:

$1:

'We've been abandoned': Why anger in the Shuswap is growing over B.C.'s wildfire fighting strategy

"The whole community of the north Shuswap is very upset because the whole region is crawling with police,"said Jim Cooperman, a writer and longtime North Shuswap resident who evacuated to Kamloops.

Critical firefighting equipment taken from B.C. wildfire area, official says
From complaints about the initial communication when evacuation orders were put in place, to disputes with B.C. Wildfire Service and police officers brought in to control the situation, to anger over government claims of looting and stealing, a tension has emerged between a government and its people.

The government believes it is in the right as it tells people to trust officials and stop taking equipment. But a large segment of the local population believes they can — and should — play a greater role.

"Call off the police," said Cooperman.

"Let the citizens who are there … fight the fires and deal with the emergency situation that is there."

So long as one realizes that disobeying evac orders to 'protect your property/ actually means risking your life to save property (replaceable material possessions) and worse, those protesters at the roadblocks claiming they're being prevented from 'helping' are actually people wanting to risk theor own lives to protect someone else's possessions.

It's an awful situation in that area. I can understand the frustrations as much of the resources have been used in other areas, or at least it seems that way. I've been in the north Shuswap visiting a friend's family summer home and it's so sad to see the pictures of the Scotch Creek and Celista devastation.

Should have made them all sign waivers that they acknowledge no extraordinary efforts that would put firefighters in jeopardy or that would waste firefighting resources will be made to rescue them if the fires turned in their direction. In other words tell them point blank that if they re-enter the hazard zone of their own free will then they're entirely on their own. And then let them go do what they want to do. Why in the world should some firefighter with a family of their own end up dying in order to save some absolute bozo, who "self educated" themselves on internet conspiracy sites, from their own stupidity?

As per the way too many people revealed their true natures during COVID, the time is long past due to stop helping certain types of individuals if they're incapable of doing the right thing, doing the smart thing, or taking part in a necessary collective effort. If they don't want to be part of a society, and accept the responsibilities that come with it, then let them go their own way regardless of the consequences that will soon certainly fall on them. We're better off without them and we shouldn't pretend otherwise. Natural selection at work, busily winnowing out the true assholes & genuine morons, can be a beautiful thing if we let it happen uninterrupted.

The sort of idiot who will soon be, well, flaming.

Not to defend these goofs, most of whom are doing this because of some sort of WEF/anti-Christ Trudeau/QAnon nonsense, but the disaster in Lahaina kind of gives them an excuse. Apparently people died in their cars on the main street in that town when the fires overtook them. And it happened because the police blockaded the road out of town because of downed power lines on the highway to safety, and refused to let them go through as the fire storm blazed closer and closer to them. The entire Hawaiian situation was a complete debacle thanks to terrible communications & police incompetence at the worst point of the fires and because they simply had no coherent plan to follow.

So thanks to another disaster of mismanagement in the US up here in Canada some of the clownshoes brigade is all fueled up with a justification to disobey evacuation orders. Welcome to the world of today, people, where the only guarantee remaining in our lives is the gold-plated absolute guarantee that nothing by either the authorities or by the common person will ever be done correctly ever again! FFS, how in the hell did things ever come to this sorry state.

As far as folks remaining behind to try to save their homes, I can kind of understand it. Fact is that if you are in a rural area, and there's an interface fire threatening a large town or city, BC Wildfire is going to--rightly--pull resources to save more peoples houses and lives. Also some of these folks are no strangers to forest fires. A lot of them have worked the line over the years. Some of them have pretty sophisticated set-ups too--heavy equipment, pumps, hoses, sprinklers, etc.

No time for any yahoos stealing BC Wildlife equipment though. Throw the book at them.

As stated previously in a lot of small towns, the convoyers are just waiting for a tear in the social fabric to step in, which I think what is happening on there.

Yep. Ezra Levant's cultists are definitely at the heart of any nonsense that erupts. I'm just waiting for Poilievre to open up his Trump-grade mouth and puke out something really stupid as his way of making up to the convoy types who feel like he jilted them.

As far as staying behind at least they're risking their own lives for their own possessions, even if having to possibly save their asses is a pain on firefighters.
The idiots demanding to enter is another story, lock them up.
Stealing firefighter's equipment, lock 'em up long time...
