That's the risk you know you take when you go into Diplomacy as an occupation. Keeping the embassy open for those citizens still idiotic enough to remain, and keeping a diplomatic channel open to Venezuela some people find worth the risk.

True. Ambassador Taylor was a hero for his actions when the Shah was tossed out. He truly deserved the Order of Canada (and the Congressional Gold Medal) he was awarded, but they should have evacuated some of the (non-essential) Consular staff.

And to this day I for one am so thankful the Canadian Embassy did stay open. I am 100% sure those Americans saved via the Canadian Embassy are also thankful to this day.

I think or at least hope every American who goes abroad Knows that if for some reason they can't get to or if it's not safe at the American embassy they can go to either the British or Canadian to seek refuge and or assistance. At the same time I hope the US Embassy is as committed to assisting Canadian's and British citizens in similar instances.

I don't mean to disparage any other countries Embassy just that these two countries seem always willing to help the US Citizens when they can.

I quite agree. But that assumes people went after the civil war began. Instead, they might have been there for years beforehand, and for some reason were unwilling or unable to leave.
