N_Fiddledog N_Fiddledog:

Fortunately that one got reduced to a trivial amount:

$1:
Originally ordered to pay Whatcott $30,000, the CBC is now on the hook for only $1,000 after a partial win before the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.

“While I find no cogent basis to set aside the finding of defamation, I would nevertheless intervene and reduce the general damages awarded in this matter to a nominal amount,” Justice Neal Caldwell wrote on behalf of the court.

And now I understand he's left Canada to spread his hate in more fertile soil in the Philippines and may never return. Good riddance.

Speaking of there, I tell the Filipino TFWs who run the local Subway if they snuck in their home cooking and sold it on the side, I'd be there more than every 3 months.

Going on 4 years, not one single local person lasted more than a week working there.

It's been many years since subway was one of my regular choices for fast food so I'm not even sure if their menu is still more or less the same as always.

I remember their chicken and steak being weirdly watery (probably because they nuked it) and as I eliminated menu choices it came down to the ham being the only thing I'd order.

Public_Domain Public_Domain:
I like Marketplace. Anyone taking shit to funky corporate practice is doing good in my book.

That said, if what DrCaleb said is true, sounds like they fucked up.

We'll see I suppose...

Have I not engendered a little trust after all these years? ;)

$1:
Update, March 6: Subway has released the lab reports from both of its independent tests. Both Maxxam Analytics in Ontario, Canada and Elisa Technologies, Inc. in Florida used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) designed for food products to quantify soy in the chicken. ELISA's are a standard type of assay that generally detect and quantify substances based on binding by an antibody. In the assay, antibody binding kicks off a detectable chemical reaction, commonly resulting in a color change. In the case of Elisa Technologies, the lab used an antibody that binds to soy flour proteins and the lab used known concentrations of those soy proteins for comparison to determine the quantity of soy protein in Subway's chicken samples.

In all samples, Elisa detected 3 parts-per-million or less of soy proteins, which is well below one percent of the chicken. Maxxam detected 5.3 ppm of soy protein in the chicken, which is still well below one percent.

$1:
Earlier this week, Ars reported that an investigation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Marketplace revealed that Subway chicken may only contain 50 percent chicken, with the rest being mostly soy. But, in the fallout from the news, food scientists are scratching their heads at the CBC’s testing methods and interpretation.

That statement says it all. I don't know who had the agenda here, the reporter or the CBC but the fact remains that despite assertions otherwise the CBC is acting more like the National Inquirer than a supposedly respected news agency which, brings into question the objectivity of the rest of their "investigative" reported stories.

So, given that some people will, from now on always associate Subway with soy chicken it's a pretty safe bet to say that when the name CBC comes up rational people will now question the authenticity and accuracy of their stories much more closely than they ever did before.

That's a bit much, don't you think? One story in . . .how long? And suddenly the entire CBC is untrustworthy?

The Inquirer has it's reputation because of the types of news it chooses to report - or create - as the case may be. That's a long stretch from the CBC. Let's not forget the same TV Program - Marketplace - is also responsible for the new scrutiny we are placing on the big 5 banks.

A screw up once in a while does not tarnish all the other stuff they do.
