I think that it's a shame that McKay is leaving. I consider myself to be a Conservative moderate and I also feel increasingly disenfranchised by this rebranded Reform Party "Tory" government. McKay is one our few links left to the so called "Conservative" party. Their instincts seem to be more Libertarian with a tinge of evangelical Christian sprinkled on top and a dictatorial PMO watching over it all lest it get out just how libertarian and evangelical they really all are. McKay is cut from a different cloth.

I read an article by Chantal Hebert yesterday saying that the election will be decided by voters of exactly my political persuasion ... Red Tories who can move their votes elsewhere. McKay's departure does not help the Harper Reform types at all.

That's usually true. Those of us who are fiscal conservatives and social liberals always weigh the decision: do I vote on economic concerns or social ones? Harper's done a fair job on the economy. So the conservative in me has no pressing concern. But on the social side, C-51 needs to not happen.

Me? I'm not sold on Justine and I love that Harper told Putin to get out of Ukraine, but I'm a lot more afraid of C-51 than I am of Russians or Liberals.
