Obama vetoed this bill today. That's because he loves Canada and he cares about your economic well being.
He does and I can't thank him enough.
It looks like we may have to build our own refineries. That would be a happy outcome.
That'll be the day. They're not going to build a finished-product refinery unless the provincial and federal governments pick up at least half of the cost. It's as big an extortion as when some scumbag pro sports team owner threatens to relocate the franchise if he doesn't get a brand new stadium to play in that is, of course, to be built entirely at taxpayers expense. Word from the towers in downtown Calgary is that the days of the mega-projects in Alberta might be over. Maintenance and operations will be OK but new construction people will be completely fucked.
The dimwits are also trying to figure out ways to make shutdowns and turnarounds in Canada only cost as much as they do in Texas. Of course they're ignoring that in Texas they can hire as many unskilled Mexicans to do jobs that skilled Canadians do in Alberta. Also in Texas they're allowed to build willy-nilly with no regulations and very little code requirements to govern the quality of the product they build. Apples and oranges comparison again but trying to get that reality through the heads of the shitfuck executive class in places like Houston and Dallas is fucking impossible.
