Actually, the bottom line is Canada isn't willing to pay millions of dollars to rip out our turf (then millions more to replace it) for a couple weeks of soccer. The gender of the players has nothing to do with it.
If they don't like it, then either don't play or petition to have someone else host it instead.
I don't think Canada would be paying. At least I hope not.
And I'm not even sure replacement is an option for, say, BC Place. They use that place for a lot of different kinds of venues--can you just rip up a sod field the way you can rip up turf?
I would have thought that Canada would pay for it as part of their duties as host nation.
It certainly can be done - IIRC the US was able to put real grass in covered stadiums for the 1994 World Cup. But it wasn't cheap to do so.
