Would be pretty awesome if Canada invested in it and turned it into something along the lines of Garryville...500,000+ bbl/day...damn near cover 1/4 of Canada's domestic need while filling Canadian coffers.

I haven't seen any regulatory notices changing that parameter.

Doesn't mean there won't be changes, but I think they'd have to have a completely new environmental assessment before that happened.

The greatest of all pipe dreams unfortunately. Even if it isn't industry shenanigans keeping the price too high, as well as too many taxes, the greedheads in Wall Street are far too involved in pricing speculation now than they were even ten years ago. Their interests aren't our interests and they aren't going to see their profits go poof just to cut a break for the rest of us.

Forgive me, I was just laughing at the thought of anyone building an oil refinery anywhere in Canada!

There'd be twenty years of environmental reviews and lawsuits followed by protests over the routing of pipelines and rail routes followed by endless acts of extortion by your own government and the First Nations. Any company trying to do this would be bankrupted before they ever got approval to turn a shovel full of dirt.

In short, there will never be a new Canadian refinery.

Laughable isn't it! A country that's actually environmentally responsible, and doesn't want to leave a toxic wasteland for the generations to come. What a bunch of IDIOTS!!!!! So what if we pollute every drop of water on our soil, cut down every tree, reducing the level of air quality which will be filled with the black smoke puking out of the refinery stacks. Who cares if we kill off all of the wildlife and livestock with the toxic air and water and humans develop even more weird diseases than they have now, and run the risk of killing enough animals off that we can no longer feed anyone but the PETA lovers. Good God! There's money to be made!! Screw tomorrow. Let's rape the earth today and someone else can clean up the mess tomorrow. We'll all be dead by then anyway!
