OnTheIce OnTheIce:
It appears it's not the child who was tripped who hurt his wrist, it was the one behind that fell on top of the tripped player.

So I guess because it wasn't the kid he tripped you feel an apology and him not coaching will suffice.

It shouldn't really matter if he broke his wrist or not. Assault is assault. Pushing someone can be deemed as assault so surely deliberately tripping a child with malicious intent is assault. I don't understand why if it happens on a rink/field or any other sports venue it should be treated any differently than if it happened on the street.

It matters because in the Criminal Code, assault causing bodily harm is a more serious offense than plain old assault.

I'm aware of that. I was aiming my comment more at the line taken by some that he should only be banned and made to apologise and that's all.

As a coach myself, I have to say this guy is an idiot. Sure you get heated, but they're kids.

But seriously, there's no need for police to be involved. Kick the guy out of the league, ban him from coaching and issue the family and the boy an apology.

He broke the kids wrist. If I did that to a young person on a sidewalk I'd be arrested in a second. Just because it happened around a sporting event doesn't exempt it from the law.

You read the article right?

Apparently, you didn't.

(RCMP Sgt.)Gidda said she could not confirm that a player’s wrist was broken in the incident.

Of course not. You guys see things so black and white. If you don't support full arrest, charges and jail, you must support the guy.

Give me a break.

It's a despicable act, one that should prevent this guy from ever being a coach again.

Ah....so we'll just agree to dismiss the comments from the RCMP that the injury has not yet been confirmed?

Nice move. Things like this are why so much of organized sports, at all levels, is now indistinguishable from the contents of an open sewer. Stay classy, coach!

Sorry, but that's a dumb thing to say.

Much of organized sports is NOT like this. Just because there are a few tools, doesn't make it all bad.

When it comes to minor hockey coaches, the tools are the overwhelming majority, not "the few".

Clearly your fogged up glasses that caused you to not see the video clearly failed you again and you missed the last part of my post that you partially quoted here.

Nothing close to "fogged up glasses".

I'll wait for official word and final charges and if you want to jump ahead, be my guest.

Let's get all the parents and coaches involved in this match who were involved in the verbal war charged for verbally assaulting the children as well. [B-o]
