I'm not sure that somebody who is capable of asking that question will be capable of understanding your answer.

But, aren't these planes wanted because they could be used offensively the next time we choose to go overseas to war? Do we need stealth capability to defend Canadian airspace? Isn't the stealth capability primarily to defend against ground radar on enemy territory?

Well, I might be busting open something that's top secret but, I've heard that aircraft are actually equipped with radar these days. So I'd have to say in the case of defending Canadian airspace, stealth would be an advantage. Not arguing for or against them, just answering your question.

I think the F35 program isn't shaping up to be the answer the RCAF was hoping for.

Maybe the RAAF answer would be something we could mirror. They leased/bought a couple of sqns of F18E/F's as an 'interim' purchase waiting F35's.

With 30 or so new airframes augmenting the vintage F18's we have remaining may be a viable solution until the F35 mess is sorted out or another, more modern and long term aircraft becomes avialable for procurement.
