I can't imagine it was an explosion - there are no weapons ranges within the SJDF and the only explosives used there (in the Constance Bank area) would be scare charges, and I can't see those causing much damage unless you drop it beside the creature.

scare charges are for incapacitating enemy divers(a good sonar ping does the same).....would one be able to do that much damage to an orca?

Who knows? If it landed right beside It's head...maybe.

My guess is that the necropsy will suggest a cause if death - be that hydrostatic pressure wave or acoustic. Combine that with the logs of the ships in the area that were capable of it and they may go from there.
