Tragic situation. Appears to be a well intentioned act that snowballed into Murder of an innocent.

Personally, I don't see any "well intentioned act here". :?

Trying to keep the neighborhood safe. Trying way beyond anything that is reasonable tho.

So what do you think should happen in this case? Was the guy justified in shooting?

It is starting to look that way as more facts come out. The dead kid was apparently doing some sort of 'acting bad' demonstration and he was wearing a fleece hoodie which, while perfectly legal, was very suspicious given that the weather that day in Sanford was 85F and 90% humidity.

The shooter had injuries to his nose and face and was bleeding profusely when the police showed up and the accounts of eyewitnesses so far back up Zimmerman's account of what happened.

The people who are making assertions on behalf of the deceased are making claims based on what they say they heard on the phone. And the investigation so far indicates that just one person was on the phone with the deceased at the time.

I'm content to see what the state investigators have to say.

The Federal investigators are going to be pursuing a political agenda and I don't have much faith in them.

From my experience, it seems that every black kid who dies in the commission of a crime is routinely heralded as a pillar of the community and the charges of RACISM!!! against the shooters are to be expected...even when the shooters are later found to be black which has been the case in numerous police-involved shootings in California.

One thing that seems clear is that the kid was not committing a crime at the time. He had a legitimate reason for being there. The cops told the shooter to back off, he didn't. I don't see he had any reason to go after the kid.

It looks like the kid challenged Zimmerman when Zimmerman got out of his truck to see what street he was on.

Hate to say, but that's not atypical of young, black males to seek out and challenge someone who is upsetting them even if that person is armed.

Based on the very little bit of information we have so far, it sounds to me like Zimmerman was spoiling for a confrontation atleast as much as the kid was. That combined with the fact the cops told him to back down may be what sinks him here.

BS.

The kid was on his way back to his Dad's place after picking up some snacks from the store during Half-Time of a Basketball game. Zimmerman was following the kid, which is clear when listening to the 911 recordings...in which he was told not to follow the suspect...he persisted.

Sounds like Zimmerman pursued, provoked and initiated a confrontation with a law-abiding citizen, then shot the guy when his tubby fat ass couldn't handle itself. That's not self defence.

Phone call sheds new light on shooting of Florida teen: lawyer
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/wor ... le2375261/

“Her call connects the dots to completely destroy what Zimmerman said (to the police) about ‘this kid was up to no good,’” Mr. Crump said. “This kid was simply trying to walk home and get out of the rain while he talked to his little friend. And that’s all he was doing. He was completely innocent.”

Mr. Martin was walking home from a convenience store, where he went to buy snacks on Feb. 26 shortly before the NBA All-Star basketball game, when Mr. Zimmerman spotted him. Mr. Zimmerman called Sanford Police to report a suspicious person in the neighbourhood, then followed Mr. Martin despite the police dispatcher telling him not to.

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and the FBI announced Monday that they had opened an investigation into the shooting.

Police have declined to arrest Mr. Zimmerman, and turned the case over to prosecutors, because of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, enacted in 2005 and now in effect in about 20 other states.

The law provides a shooter with wide latitude to claim a killing was in self defense.

Mr. Crump said Mr. Martin got off the phone with the girl for a few minutes because it started to rain and he was running to get under shelter.

The two reconnected via cellphone for the last time at 7:12 p.m. for four minutes. Police say they arrived at the scene at 7:17 to find Mr. Martin dead, Mr. Crump said.

The girl told Mr. Crump that Mr. Martin told her he was being followed and that she had encouraged him to run.

“She knew details about what went on because he was telling her,” Mr. Crump said.

He said the girl heard the initial confrontation between Mr. Martin and Mr. Zimmerman.

“Trayvon said, ‘Why you following me, man?’” and Mr. Zimmerman said, ‘What are you doing here?’” Mr. Crump said.

He said the girl could tell by Mr. Martin’s voice that he was then pushed. She thinks Mr. Martin’s cellphone headset came off and then the call was disconnected, Mr. Crump said.

He said that when she called back, the girl did not get an answer and knew nothing else until she heard of her friend’s killing on the news.

The girl was so traumatized after learning what happened that she was unable to attend Mr. Martin’s wake and had to be hospitalized, Mr. Crump said.

I said it looks like.

There are no definites here. The kid's girlfriend says he was minding his own business but the only person who knows what went on in the conversation between Traylor and the gf is the gf.

Let the investigators do their thing and then come to a conclusion.

All of the race-baiting here is just going to start a shooting war between the blacks and the Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, and Dominicans...and that won't turn out well.

Really? As apposed to someone who may be accused of killing someone at a later date? Who was also told by a police dispatcher not to follow him. I don't think Cletus and his gun are out of the woods on this one.
