PENATRATOR PENATRATOR:
As a guy who has served in Afghanistan twice and unfortunately, was close with one of the lads just brought home today, the first time I saw this video I was enraged, but after thinking about it, I actually feel sorry for these jerk-offs, for one they really show how stupid they are with their stereotypes of the Mounties and law enforcement in General, their lack of knowledge of the Canadian Military and our contribution to the mission. These are the kind of retards that show up at the Windsor border crossing in mid July with Ski's and wonder where all the snow is. As Canadian's we can be proud of the fact that we are educated enough to know what is going on beyond our borders and are not small minded jack asses like these people. Fortunately they do not represent the vast majority of Americans it has been my privlidge to know.

Very good man here!

But everyone missed another point which bothered me. Why would this Leslie guy say this about your army? I think he was out of line also.

 Wow the world you live in. Who fills your head with this BS? next we are gonna hear the story of the American couple who put the Canadian flag on there back pack and got trated so nicely. :?

ITS A URBAN MYTH most people outside of North America could care less they throw us all in the same pot!

I knew several Americans with Canadian flags sewn on their backpacks during my time in Asia.

Choban Choban:
Well everyone, I sent them an email explaining why they were wrong! I would encourage anyone else to do the same.
I for one don't care if they apologize or feel bad about the whole thing. I know I can put a Canadian flag on my pack and go almost anywhere in te world and receive respect because I'm Canadian. How many Americans can say that.

See Choban, this is when things are taken just that bit too far.

The latent anti-American streak that some Canadians have seems to take a perverse pleasure at stuff like this.

Fox screwed up. Anybody who defends them fails to see the impact this had on our national psyche.
These plonkers dissing our troops fighting and dying just hit a raw nerve when we are now used to seeing C130’s leaving Khandahr with the remains of our young soldiers on pallets.

But, this is not an excuse to attack the vast number of Americans who share our values and have suffered the impact that having 3000 plus civilians killed by crazed Islamic terrorists on that terrible day in September 2001.

America has continued to send its young people to fight and die in what it believes are just causes.
We fight alongside them in Afghanistan, they are our comrades and their guys are bleeding along with the RCR.

Enough on slagging Yanks off.

Keep it up on Fox but Fox is not the US and Fox does not speak for those who know of Canada’s sacrifices.

No more pointless anti-Americanism please.

Absolutally not, he said what had to be said.

The mission in Afghanistan has eliminated our vehicle fleet, and several guys are starting 5th, 6th, and even 7th tours now. Back in 2006 when this mission started a guy who would have already done 3 tours overthere was considered extreme.

For many regiments, thankfully not mine, any higher tempo would have meant going overseas and staying overseas, with an instructor cadre left behind to train replacements for the dead, injured, and mentally incapacitated.

Consider this: before the war, the CF had about 160 coyotes out of 200 that were considered combat ready. That number has dwindled to approximately 50-60 now since 2006, based on the percentages that the general gave. We have more vehicles running then that; but, a lot of the vehicles that are currently running were blown up overseas or otherwise damaged, were then patched back together, and are now used soley for training. This means that at the same pace of depleation, by the end of the war our combat ready recce vehicle fleet could concievably be completely depleated, with no replacement in site.

I'm going to guess that the DND hasn't issued a call for a replacement because a replacement vehicle means that the training woudl have to be compeltely overhauled, which we can't do at this time, and a new vehicle fleet would take years to impliment. Recycling the coyote design would mean that we are producing vehicles that we don't intnd to keep for a relatively long time (another 10 years at most), and to buy new vehicles now would further show that casualties have been mounting. Again, these are just guesses on my part, but they make some sense.

I don't know what experience you've had traveling but I have traveled parts of Europe where Canadians are loved and a flag will get you invited to dinner or drinks, It may be stereotypical but it's not BS as I've seen it first hand, and yes I've met Americans who had Canadian flags on their packs.

No slandering but your 'Maple leaf' patch thing just plays into old stereotypes of Americans.
No different than MD and his old stereotypes about Canadians really mate.

I know you meant no offence but put yourself in an Americans shoes when you post those comments.

It goes both ways, we can't accuse them of insensitivity when we are less than sensitive back.

I know of several with four tours in Afghanistan but none with more than that. 7 tours? I gotta call bullshit on that!

Personally? None. I got those figures from when I was in the chicken coup to get my stitches looked at a week and a half ago. Witnessed the jacking of a pair of RCR types, one private and one corporal, when they were overheard grumbling about having to do a tour within a year.

It was a second hand reference, and could have been overblown to exagerate the sgts. point. I believe(*d) it could be true, as my PPCLI Sgt. from basic, Sgt. Macdougall, consistantly talked about the frequency of rotations in the infantry, and he cited examples of guys who have gone over 3 or 4 times as of the start of 2008. Thats why I used it.

* - Edit in.

2Cdo, if you call bullshit on the 7, I'll retract that. But what about the 5 and 6 references?

Like I said, I only know of people that have done 4 tours in Afghanistan. I know plenty of people who have done 7 or more overseas tours, just not 7 in Afghanistan. Myself, as a member of the PPCLI for over 20 years, have done 6 tours of various shitholes.

Good point EyeBrock, I see what you mean.
Insensitivity in reaction to insenitivity doesn't reflect anything posative on our end.
Still it's sad to see the tripe fed to Americans by their media even if it is on a 3 am talk show.
I don't hate Americans, far from it, I've met a few, some good people some not so good people, 1 of my fondest memories is some time I spent in Maine, I was somewhat of a celebrity in Bangor, no one I met had ever met a Canadian before and I left there with a good impression and hope I left one behind me as well.
Having said that, I think this show should be held accountable for it's stance here, maybe a posative episode about Canadian/American relations told from both sides of the border.
