Mustang1 Mustang1:
If the domestics are better how come their reliability, initial quality and depreciation has been garbage over the last 15 years. Want to check JD Power and
Consumers Reports? Didn't think so.

You gotta get out more... Next time Barrett-Jackson auction is on speed you best tune in and see if they depreciate or not....

IF a taxi is unreliable and in the garage it's going to cost the owner/operator a lot of lost income... They choose reliability first...[PERIOD] end of discussion...

The most durable engine ever built was the American V8....

3500 dollars for a 10 year old car? must be a real POS if you were willing to take that little amount...but, then again a GM drops 80% in value as soon as you drive it off the lot

There's already $4000 in green incentives to trade my 84 F150 4x4 in for a new one.
Just need to come up with the other $45,000 somehow :D

You just need to enter our postal code in a bank computer and the screen blinks red

Yeah, that's what i thought, nothing from you on objective fact. Consumer Reports, JD Powers. They've spoken. And you're flat ass wrong. Deal with it.

Reading about cars doesn't mean you know about them... I know people that are book smart about tcp/ip, Netware, Samba, Linux, ethernet networking but they can't do beans compared to someone who has been actually doing it for 10-20 years...

The same is true about cars... A Consumers Report is based upon a current model that is fresh off of the assembly line... Now lets look at that car in 5 or 10 years...

No stick to your books, I'll take the advice of people I know and trust... People who actually work on cars and not just read or write about them....

Been doing that for 25 years and I still know GM vehicles leave a lot to be desired. The Pontiac Tempest I once owned required a Hoover Dam on all places where fluids are kept.

And talking to "mechanics" doesn't mean they or you understand the industry. Prove me wrong. Instead of rambling on and on about your "hammer and nail" smarts you explain to me how JD Power and Consumer Reports got LONG TERM reliability studies wrong. You demonstrate to me how Sunfire did in fact hold their value better than Civics. Ask your Crappy Tire mechanic.

Consumer Reports still slams domestic reliability. Plain and simple. And JD Power tracks LONG TERM reliability - maybe next time learn about this before posting - so as per usual, you're still wrong.

Domestics have been an absolute disaster in terms of dependability, reliability, depreciation and quality over the last 15 years and you've done squat to call actual objective evidence into question. I guess "book" smarts trumps "hammer and nail" smarts again.

I will stick to evidence and you stick to anecdotal ramblings that so far has proved entirely incorrect against a mountain of evidence to the contrary. And when practically every consumer work and every automotive enthusiast magazine and every business outlet all arrive at the same conclusions regarding the domestic market missteps you can still rely on Muffler Man.

You're wrong. His mechanic says so. I talked to the guy at the gas station and he agrees with you, so i guess we're still at an impasse. I'll solve this tomorrow when i go to Home Hardware.

When it comes to reliability people who earn their living from cars choose domestics over Jap crap... [PERIOD] end of discusion.... Crown Vics, Mercury Marquis, Impalas, etc are tough, reliable and cheap to maintain....

These mechanics I know are all friends, a brother and a cousin. One works with the police department, one is a fleet senior mechanic for a national rental chain, the other is shop foreman for Honda... They each have 30+ years in the automotive industry...

There's a good reason why Toyota Camry NASCAR uses a 9 inch Ford for it's rear end...

and there is a reason why Ford has copied Toyota management principles over the last decade, and paid Toyota for using their engine technology.

And what is your point? The Big Three went to Japan after WWII to assist the Japanese auto industry...

The Toyota inline six used in the original Landcruisers was based upon the Chevy Blue Flame 6...!!!!

Maybe GM should use some slave labour like Toyota....

Maybe GM should've made better, reliable cars over the last 15 years like Toyota...

Yeah...that's why most police cars in North America are Ford Crown Vics or Chevy Impalas...

IF Toyotas are better how come more domestics are preferred as service cars (taxis, police cars, military cars, fire department cars, etc)...???

The Camry and the Prius are quickly becoming the taxi of choice. In Victoria, I'd estimate 90% of taxis are Toyotas.
