Reading about cars doesn't mean you know about them... I know people that are book smart about tcp/ip, Netware, Samba, Linux, ethernet networking but they can't do beans compared to someone who has been actually doing it for 10-20 years...
And talking to "mechanics" doesn't mean they or you understand the industry. Prove me wrong. Instead of rambling on and on about your "hammer and nail" smarts you explain to me how JD Power and Consumer Reports got LONG TERM reliability studies wrong. You demonstrate to me how Sunfire did in fact hold their value better than Civics. Ask your Crappy Tire mechanic.

The same is true about cars... A Consumers Report is based upon a current model that is fresh off of the assembly line... Now lets look at that car in 5 or 10 years...
Consumer Reports still slams domestic reliability. Plain and simple. And JD Power tracks LONG TERM reliability - maybe next time learn about this before posting - so as per usual, you're still wrong.
Domestics have been an absolute disaster in terms of dependability, reliability, depreciation and quality over the last 15 years and you've done squat to call actual objective evidence into question. I guess "book" smarts trumps "hammer and nail" smarts again.

No stick to your books, I'll take the advice of people I know and trust... People who actually work on cars and not just read or write about them....
I will stick to evidence and you stick to anecdotal ramblings that so far has proved entirely incorrect against a mountain of evidence to the contrary. And when practically every consumer work and every automotive enthusiast magazine and every business outlet all arrive at the same conclusions regarding the domestic market missteps you can still rely on Muffler Man.
