JustKate JustKate: RUEZ RUEZ: I hope when he get's out he moves next door to you Hurley. I hope for the same. Just said on CTV that he will be evaluated every year. WTF? You would rather he be thrown into an oubliette and never evaluated at all? I wasn't aware that we live in 14th century France. You really are clueless.

ridenrain ridenrain: hurley_108 hurley_108: What had he done to that point that would have justified locking him up? We're father down the road and right back to where we started except one innocent person is dead. I think we could successfully argue that it was not what he had done but what he could do. Aha, so we're meant to see the future. Can you do this?

hurley_108 hurley_108: Yogi Yogi: martin14 martin14: But there is no guarantee he wont be out, maybe not in a week, but 3-4 years ?
and what about the rest of us ? Well we'll just have to trust that if he is released in 3-4 years, he will have been treated in some way, convinced to keep taking medication, something, in those years. 'We' have already been down that road! Vincent Li was under the care of doctors and being trusted to take his medications, and at some point chose not to. Clearly unwilling or unable to truly understand the potential consequences of that choice. Tim McLean paid for that decision with his life in one of the most horrific ways ever witnessed by others. They also are victims of Vincent Li's decision not to take the perscribed medications.'We' are now at the point in time where not being any better than Vincent Li cannot be used by anyone as a valid argument for keeping him alive unless those people who hold such an opinion can truly say, without a hint of reservation that they would have no problem with one of their own loved ones being another of Vincent Li's travelling companions! Society cannot guarantee any of us 'safe passage on our journey through life', but wherever clear-cut cases of danger exist such as in this case, Our safety and well-being must come first at any cost. 'APPEARANCES BE DAMNED!Bullshit.[/quote] So, hurley, see if you can come up with a mature response to this question. Who's way of thinking offers more towards the the expectation of 'safety and well being', 'yours' with words such as possibley, maybe, he may, likely, indefinitely, ad nauseum, or 'mine' with words like no hope of cure, forever a danger to society, lethal injection? I just cannot comprehend the fact that 'you' are willing to even remotely take a chance with the lives/safety of the people whom you love or care about!

The emotions in this thread need to be toned down a notch or two m'kay?
Remeber what Aristotle said: "The law is reason removed from passion."

I probably put my family at greater risk of horrible death by putting them in a car and driving them to a restaurant for supper than Li could ever pose to them.

Harvest his organs for donation, send his remains to the body farm where he will be evaluated much more often and thereby actually contributes to society.WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN...!

Akhenaten Akhenaten: First: You can blame the rigid philosophy of psychiatry and their dependence and blind faith in the idea that every mental disorder can either be cured or controlled with a pill.

xerxes xerxes: The emotions in this thread need to be toned down a notch or two m'kay? I'll try. $1: Remeber what Aristotle said: "The law is reason removed from passion." But that's what this is all about, isn't it? Reason says Li's a mentally unwell person who was unable to tell right from wrong that night and killed someone. Passion says he should be locked up forever or executed for that sick, twisted, evil thing he did.

Well, excuse me... But do you mind that I do not want his organs to be donated to anyone?

martin14 martin14: happening at least once Roman, what about stopping it from happening again ?
Theres nothing here stopping him from getting out. Sure there is, the fear of going to a real prison. I've got a family member and a friend who works at the Mental hospital in NE Edmonton. The Forensics Bdlg there is a fortress and none of the patients there (serial rapists, murderers, etc) ever try to escape, because they know that in so doing, they'll go to a maximum security prison for the rest of their sentence.

At the point of 'Li's last actions' he lost all right to 'human considerations'.
Societies safety must come first at any cost!
I have shown my willingness to offer compassion where none is due via lethal injection.
'My way' guarantees an absolute that Vincent Li will never have the opportunity to hurt another human being!
