sasquatch2 sasquatch2: The aspect this moronic intiative that is overlooked was it's purpose was not so much to raise "awareness" but rather to demonstrate wide support. The widspread rise rather than fall of power usage indicates it was an abject failure. Where was there a rise besides Calgary?

Yes there was, compare the amount used to the same time last Saturday and during the black out hour. The temperature last Saturday was almost 15 degrees warmer than this Saturday....forced air heating requires electricity to move the warm air through the heating systems.
Biggest joke...the amount of electricity used at 9 when everybody turned the lights back on and any heating units that were turned off for an hour would have fired up creating a spike in electricity usage.

That compares with a range of 976 megawatts to 1,023 megawatts at the same times last Saturday.
Enmax spokeswoman Ginette Boulian said there were many factors that could explain the jump, including colder weather.

I did my part. Everything was off except for the TV (my Dad wasn't willing to give that up). What an hour, we watched The Cable Guy in the dark.

Thinking about all these bad habits I still have to break! It was more than enough to get me busy in the dark, last Saturday.
