Alberta Heath Services care teams accompanied the patients to an oilsands site north of Fort McMurray, then a WestJet 737 plane flew them to Edmonton Tuesday night. Some flew on Wednesday morning. According to AHS, all are now safe in hospitals and nursing homes in and around Edmonton.

Dr. Verna Yiu said, despite heavy smoke and busy roads, everyone got out safely.

Just awesome. Everybody's doing their jobs and doing them well.

I haven't read about one injured person yet.

I don't understand why Canada/Alberta are not engaging US firefighting assets.

California alone could send at least 40 aircraft. We're always sending aircraft and crews to Australia when they need it...and they've returned the favor a few times, as well.

California and Alberta have done it before, and have always worked quite well together.

I found out today we have a national forest ranger that watches conditions across the country. Fire conditions are rated on a 1 to 5 scale and right now Alberta is rating in at a 4 but the national average is sitting at 2 so according to him there are enough resourses across the country to handle the situation in Alberta. There will be 100 fire fighter and more water bombers coming from Ontario on Friday.

Aren't you in Kelowna? The news just reminded me about houses around Kelowna burning up last year. Hell, we had smoke from surrounding fires right here in River City last year.

Christ, this summer could still get a whole lot worse.

Seemed like Kelowna had two or three really bad fires since 2000 alone. The main part of town never got hit but a lot of the houses on the outskirts that were built among the trees were lost.
