OnTheIce OnTheIce: Gunnair Gunnair: No, I'll call bullshit here. The irony of an atheist complaining about the goal posts of Canadian culture changing is delicious because I suspect you'd be wailing and gnashing your teeth if the Lord's prayer were reintroduced.
Call bullshit all you want, you're dead wrong. In actual fact, I'm all for keeping with the religious traditions of this Country, despite my personal feelings on religion. I was upset when they started naming the Christmas Concert "Holiday Concert" and even more pissed when they threatened to cancel Halloween. I'd rep you if you had it enabled. This is another dead-on post. And don't even get me started on the 'holiday' B.S. -J.

Gunnair is correct about the complainants. It's not the immigrants that are complaining, for the most part. It's some self loathing pasty white bureaucrat, who thinks they know the mindset of the immigrant better than the immigrant does, that is responsible for changing things. Chances are they are a card carrying member of the federal Dippershit party too.

Nope, I got it right here and as usual, you are coming back swinging with nothing behind it. I'm waiting for your factually based argument to kick in here, OTI, the one you demand from everyone else. Just the crickets chirping though.

OnTheIce OnTheIce: Gunnair Gunnair: It's funny, the guys who do the least to preserve freedoms are the first that wish to take it away.
Yea, we'll see how warm and fuzzy you are when groups of people start protesting Remembrance Day ceremonies here in Canada....burning Poppies chanting for soldiers to "rot in Hell". I've steeled myself up by listening to the manking in the flats of atheists who shit themselves into conniptions when someone mentions religion in a public venue then gnash their teeth at the loss of Canadian traditions.

We need the musings of your deepthinkedness on this to add to the weighty and critically thunked out missives you've submitted so far. You know, the "Immigrants bad" one? Oh, and the, "I'll go fight if they call me up, but I got this trick knee that prevents me from volunteering..." that one was good

ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog: $1: Blame it on "the immigrant". We are used to it. you really don't qualify as an immigrant, so you're not allowed to play that pity card. You're like EB and Pluggy..... you're a delayed pioneer. Most 'immigrants' would see you as just another whitey round eye. Nope. I AM an immigrant. So when you mean "muslim bastard woman basher" or "dog cooking lound eye", just say so. Otherwise, you are throwing me and my kids on the same pile as every other immigrant, WHICH IS WHAT WE ARE. I guess it is politically incorrect to call a spade a spade. You mean Muslims? SAY SO. You mean Chinese? SAY SO. You mean black people? SAY SO. But don't tell me I am "a pioneer" only because I am white. Muslim, Chinese, black, we all filled out the same paperwork and went through the same process as immigrants. *EDIT* It was brought to my attention that you might have been facetious/factitious here... (stupid ESL ) If so, I am sorry

I gotta appreciate your persistence here, Gun. Despite me being 100% truthful and honest with you....you, who know nothing about me personally, is calling me wrong. I'm the type of person that I think all Canadians should be when it comes to our traditions and values. Despite not being a Christian, I've never once complained about any religious activity that me or my children have taken part in. I take part in Christmas activities at home, work and at my kid's schools....even have Christmas parties with the hockey team I coach. My girls are in the Santa Claus Parade this Sunday with their Girl Guides too. Gun, you don't need to pretend you know everything about everyone based on a few words written on a screen. Some people are genuine and truthful to you...time to let your guard down, stop being the know-it-all.

$1: "dog cooking lound eye"
Dutch people eat dog? The culture into which you have moved isn't going to see you as a foreigner or an immigrant. Canada is still very euro centric in their views...or at least most Canadians are. You may self identify as an immigrant, but because of how you look there will be preconceptions... or no preconceptions actually, unless you insist on wearing traditional dutch clothes all the time and speak heavily accented English. Do the Dutch look at Belgians who move to the Netherlands as immigrants?

Do the Dutch look at Belgians who move to the Netherlands as immigrants? Well, Canada may be very Euro-centric still, but frankly, places like Vancouver are not quite so. Outside of walking about with the thickest accent in creation, or still wearing traditional clothing, Chinese and Indians I don't think are looked on in general as immigrants. I'll agree they are certainly not looked upon like Brenda would be (even in her clogs and orange bikini) but still, attitudes are changing.

Do the Dutch look at Belgians who move to the Netherlands as immigrants? Sure, when we eat Chinese... Belgians coming to The Netherlands don't have the visa hell immigrants to Canada go through. Regardless of where they are from. They also do not have to deal with skill-qualification issues, they are just Europeans with a funny accent. Immigrants to Canada from any other country but the USA HAVE to do with that BS, whether you are white, black, Muslim or Jew. then there is the "You have no Canadian work experience"-thing that EVERY immigrant runs into.

Nice to see you're into writing fiction too Science fiction actually. But painting your picture is easy enough and demands nothing more complicated than an angry stick figure bitching at the world.
