He's entitled to his entitlements. Actually, in a way, it supports his conjecture that the system is broken. He's apparently a gazillionaire and poor shmuks acorss the land are paying their hard-earned cash to him. On the other hand, John McCain seems a little gaffe prone.

If other words rhyme with or sound like Trudeau, I promptly file them under category useless.

Off topic, yes. But important nevertheless.

Because he paid into it. It's an insurance program. Why would he not collect benefits?

I just want to opt out of the system. Is that so wrong?

And I don't see why this would be an issue for McCain unless he took a strong stand against Social Security, in which case this could be considered mildly hypocritical.

Fro the first sentence of the article:

$1:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain cashes his monthly Social Security checks despite calling the federal program "a disgrace," the Associated Press reports.

And I think you can opt out of the benefits. Prob'ly not out of the payment though!

There we go. I guess he could justify it considering that he would use the money to fight for reforming SS, but that seems weak. Meh, I was never satisfied with him in the first place.

I just want the option to pay or not! The government takes your cash out of your paycheck before you even touch it. As much of a hassle it might be, I would prefer to just write them an annual check, so when I decide to go on the run, I can screw them out of a year's worth of taxes.

Social security is an American system.. Old age pension is Canadian and is given to all Canadian citizens at 65..you have to apply tho.. so it doesn't matter how much money you have or if you are still working you are entitled to it.. its like 500 a month.. hope they still have some when I get there :)

Remember the beginning of Bush's second term: all the fuss about privatizing social security.
