My brilliant brother is serving a court-ordered 1 year term (he's not in jail, just has restrictions like no driving and stuff) for DUI. My dad said he has a misdemeanor....so for our wedding here in Canada, it is my understanding that he is virtually banned from Canada as a result.....is this correct? any suggestions or experiences with this issue?

Well at the very least he should contact a Canadian consulate and ask a professional. Seems like they make exceptions for certain things.

edit: I just checked out the Canadian consulate site and I think you're right.

$1:
Members of Inadmissible Classes include those who have been convicted of MINOR OFFENCES (including shoplifting, theft, assault, dangerous driving, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of illegal substances, etc.), or of INDICTABLE CRIMINAL OFFENCES (including assault with a deadly weapon, manslaughter, etc.). As well, those who have been convicted of DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED (DWI) are considered Members of an Inadmissible Class. Driving while under the influence of alcohol is regarded as an extremely serious offence in Canada.

Couple years ago my bud from palm springs came up for a visit and had no problem,he also had a DUI. Things could be different now. Should be ok if he's driving,Canadian border guards usually give returning Canucks a harder time then yanks.

If he can't go, does that mean we're invited?

Yup, here in Penticton. My new job is great but long hours, hence not on here very often.

Anyone know how strict the Americans are if you try and cross the border from Canada to the US (by Air) if you have a conviction in Canada for drunk driving? This person plans to go to the US at Christmas by Air. He would have a passport. Does anyone know what his chances are of being turned back at the border???

This link if for immigration, and for as far as I know, he is just visiting. If it is immigration, it is part of the process to rehabilitate.
