I thought this was an interesting article that some of the bird lovers on here might enjoy.

I got mugged today 8O .......
I was walking the trail when Mrs Downy Woodpecker came straight at me down the trail from about 60'. She stopped right in front of me at head level, hovered a second then landed on a branch, as soon as I pulled out some feed she came right back, and with no hesitation landed on my hand and took a piece of peanut, she came back for a second piece, then was gone. On the flip trip she came out of nowhere for another piece. First time for a Downy, and she initiated it 8O
.......the pics are lousy, the battery was basically dead, hopefully she'll come back tomorrow. the battery's charging right now... :)

I didn't bother taking down my Hummer feeder this fall, a couple weeks ago I had this guy show up. I cleaned and refilled the feeder and now he's showing up about a dozen times a day minimum, I don't know where else he's finding food, so it looks like I'm gonna have to keep him going the rest of the winter....

It's a Downy, size always tells, Hairy are about 50% bigger than the Downy, 6" for the Downy as compared to about 9" for the Hairy, which I haven't run into around here. There are at least 2 pair of Downy in the area near here, don't know if they are paired up but at least 2 of each gender.

Thought I'd revive this, as I have some new visitors this year.

Got a really good photo of a Blue Jay. They are skittish, and don't normally hang around long enough for me to get my camera booted up.

Finally identified these little guys as 'Rusty Blackbirds'. Don't know why they are called 'Rusty'. They appear all black, unless you can get the sun behind you, they they are all purple and green. Very cheeky little guys too.

Finally got a Northern Raven too. Big brute! One of the few animals that when you look them in the eye, you know someone (not something) is looking back.

Finally, the best for last.

I was lying in bed, listening to the birds munch happily outside my window, when one call piqued my interest. It started off as a gentle chirping, but ended like the gurgle of a pigeon. Couldn't figure it out.

The Yellow Headed Blackbird! Never seen one before!
