I think the simplicity of the name was a bit to hard to comprehend for some hence why some call it soccer. Or could it be North america just want to pretend they invented something new ???

Football... I understand that the rest of the world uses Football for the American/Canadian equivalent of soccer....

you already know Football is already taken for a different sport in north America

But why call your rugby with padding football when the foot is hardly used.... i just dont see the reason behind that

As both participant and spectator;

I’d say cycling is number one; road racing, not that nonsensical mountain bike stuff.

I raced at the senior levels through the eighties. I still ride a lot now, although the bike trailer with the two year old in it slows me down a little bit. I still do the odd time trial; just to prove I’m not a flabby old man. I don’t follow Pro Cycling as much as I used too. I lost interest in the Tour de France after it became the ‘all about Lance show’.

Speed skating is number two. I took it up when I was racing as a means to stay in shape through the winter. It helped I lived next to the Rideau Canal at the time.

Triathlon is pretty cool. I rode and trained with a few tri-athletes. I even tried it out but I didn’t have the upper body for the swimming.

As just a spectator; Curling is good, World Cup skiing and The Olympics.


I could never generate any interest in hockey, football, or baseball. It’s just plain dull.

used to be hockey but now Nascar first then hockey, just really don`t like the new rules in hockey pretty soon in hockey if someone breaks wind in the nose bleed section ref throw his arm up and call penalty for interference.

My favourite sport too play is basketball but my favourite to watch is hockey.

1) high-sticking
2) cross-checking
3) slashing
4) tripping
5) holding
