Depends which type of game I'm in the mood for - if I'm interested in watching a more conservative game that features lots of running plays, then the NFL. But if I want a fast-paced, no-holds barred game based largely on throwing, then it's the CFL.

Most days, it's CFL for me.

Not much running in the NFL these days, I'd almost say there's more in the CFL. You'll see a lot more of it in college.

Go back a few years and the defensive line was large and slow... a fact that did not go unnoticed by the running game. To counter this, the defensive line lost a few pounds, put on a lot of muscle and the guys have gotten much faster... which makes it a lot harder to get a running game going.

It's become a passing game, on both sides of the border.

I don't know about that.

I'll fully agree that rushing yards are down, but the number of times the team runs the ball is, on average, higher than in the CFL.

I didn't watch any NFL games yesterday (I'm nominally a Bengals fan and they play tonight), but just a quick glance at the box scores shows that in many games, close to half of the plays (for at least one team, sometimes both) were rushing plays.

In the CFL, it's closer to a quarter of plays are rushing ones. Admittedly, that's largely due to the three downs game vs four downs game, but rushing still plays a huge part in NFL games, at least when compared to the CFL.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20120909012

In that game, Atlanta ran the ball 23 of 55, while KC ran it 33 of 69 times.

Even teams with star QBs like the Patriots and Cowboys ran it close to 50% of the time. I agree not ALL NFL teams are so pre-disposed, but I'd bet that close to half of them are, which means that odds are if you watch a game on Sunday, you're going to see a lot of running.

Also I'd bet the NFL passes are more likely to be short-yardage passes.

CFL hands down over the No Fun League. I have better things to do on a Sunday than sit around watching a 1 hour game take over 3 1/2 hours to play.

There are some appealing aspects to both football leagues.

The marketing around the NFL is so much superior to that of the CFL. Sure, the U.S. has a greater population. Still, the NFL is by far the biggest attraction amongst all the other sports league.

A great thing about the CFL is the passing plays. It's a bit faster than their counterparts at the NFL. Also a bit more excitment at the CFL. Although, it would be nice to have some additional teams added to the league.

CFL or NFL?....and the NFL is what? National Florists League??

Sorry, I don't understand what you're trying to compare the CFL to.

All I know is I love football played by the only 8 teams that matter....the CFL teams.

9, if you count the Ottawa Rough Riders, which is the way it ought to be.

Although I haven't watched the CFL for many years, I wouldn't disparage it. Different strokes for different folks.

But personally I like the NFL a lot more.

I prefer 4 downs over 3 downs, because there's a lot less kicking.

IMO the quality of the play is a lot more strategic.

It does take a lot to "get up to speed" with the NFL because of the large number of teams and players, but as you become more familiar the game grows on you.

The added kicker for me is fantasy football, which is highly developed, real-time, free, and allows you to draft a custom team and go head to head with other football fans. I'm in a 12-man FF league with my son and some friends and colleagues, and we have a ton of fun with it.

I've also become a fan of NFL Red Zone, available on satellite ($49 for the season). It's a highly developed program which ties into ALL the 1:00 and 4:00 NFL games on Sundays and shows all the plays (all live, unless it gets really busy) from the 30 yard line in. I'll watch that unless I'm really glued to a specific game where I have a favourite playing or there's a really good matchup.

A typical Sunday for me is to go out bird hunting (ruffed grouse) for a couple of hours in the morning (I'm off to do that soon after I post this), and an afternoon watching some good NFL ball with a buddy or two, a good bowl of chili and a couple of brews.

A Sunday doesn't get any better than that!

There is no contest. The competition level in the CFL just doesn't match up with that of the NFL.

However when it comes to replacement referees (as we saw recently in the NFL), I pray that we never encounter this situation again in the future. It is just wrong. Most of us don't want games decided by bad officiating.

R=UP Although the LFL is a joke it still has it's values although they should never mike up the players, worst language I've ever heard in any televised sporting event....

The 3rd choice should be the NCAA, which is a more exciting, chance-taking, razzle-dazzle brand of football than either of the professional leagues.
