The art director at work is a golf fanatic and he's been trying to get us to sign some petition to have golf instituted as an Olympic sport. So far the only one to sign has been my insane and wholly inadequate boss. My argument is that if golf is in the Olympics, then pool should be too...eight ball, nine ball, and snooker.
Anyway, the art director has been in a snit because we won't sign. What do you guys think? Is golf an Olympic level sport, or should we drag the art director back into the shipping room and beat him with Barbie Dolls?

As an Avid golfer I have to say that Golf is indeed a sport. As far as it becoming an olympic sport, I don't think golf belongs, I mean come on already they have frickin olympic table tennis - if the olympics continue to add events like this the olympics will lose it's seriousness.

The beauty of these sports is that you don't have to be 'in shape' to play. I used to think Golf was the most senseless sport known to man - until I played it, it really can be lots of fun.

Ok I have given it somemore thought
It has all the earmarks of a sport. Swearing, betting, and drinking.
Just take out those funny plaid pants and I would say yes to Golf in the Olympics.
Ya might have to change the name, Gender bias.

Of course it is a sport and it very much should be in the olympics. Do you think it can get any worse than syncro-swimming and ballroom dancing?
Golf would be a step up and one of the few 'skilled' sports left.
Is there a harder game to play than golf?

Golf is not a sport. It's for people who are out of shape and want to say they play a sport. Driving around a course chasing a ball doesn't require any athletic ability. You need skill yes, but you can be obese and still have that skill. Would we be sending golf players as our athletes to the olympics too? You can imagine. All these atheletes walking into the olympic stadium in excellent shape and then the golfers driving in on there golf carts. Besides, golf is so boring to watch.
The olympics should eliminate alot of events, not add any. Curling should be gone because it's not a sport either. All events that require judging should be gone, such as figure skating and diving and synchronize swimming. And does anyone realy care who wins in the javelin?

Speaking for myself I NEVER rent a 'golf cart' [too cheep] I always walk, and I carry my clubs on my back - not in a cart. There actually aren't very many obese people that do play golf [those I know that have tried can't swing a club]. How many fat professional golf players have you seen?
All sports require skill, some just require more physical exursion - doesn't mean that it's more 'sporty'.

I, personally am an 'athletic player'.
Now, by your own statement, you're stating that Hockey, Basketball, baseball etc are not sports either - only games with 'athletic players.
