2022 World Cup matches could be played after midnight due to Qatar heat$1:
In dismissing a September prediction from a FIFA executive that the 2022 World Cup would not be held in Qatar, organizers insisted: “The only question now is WHEN, not IF.”
When” was meant as a question of summer or winter as organizers seek a way around the danger posed by Qatar’s scorching temperatures in June and July — the World Cup’s traditional dates. But now a former FIFA official and potential challenger for the FIFA presidency is suggesting a time shift of a different nature.
“You could play the first games at 7 p.m., the second games at 10 p.m. and the third matches at 1 a.m.,” Harold Mayne-Nicholls told BBC Sport.
