Well I was looking to get a new vehicle and let me tell you.. I dont think i will.. Ill buy a nice used one from a private partyy and have done with it.. All the ads every where.. Chryselr as an example) 0% financing.. up to $19,000.00 in rebates.. ( fine print you cant have both).. You qualify for 1.9% finace rate..(only on the model you dont want lol) other wise bank rates of up to 9%...Then... they have the adds with a price and a payment amount of 125.00B/W.. then fine print says with 30% down payment.. but again you really have to look hard to find the fine print.. its allways hidden in small allmost illegible printing at the bottom of the page.. Ok once you buy the vehicle and the sales man does his part to you, they pass you onto some finance person, who then tacks another $500.00 on the price.. (admin fees) I once asked why and i was told that they do a lien check and thay have to pay for that ..( that costs 25.00 at any registry office..) but at the time I was getting a brand new truck from them so no liens right??then they do thier best to sell you life and disability insurance... extended warranty..they had marked all parts with serial numbers for anti-theft and now expect you to pay for it even though you didnt ask for it..paint protection insurance.. and I know im forgeting a few but cant remember them right now...how can these companies be going broke??.. I can remeber buying a car from a GM dealer years ago.. I went in.. the price was right on the window.. I asked what the best deal for cash was and he told me right off with out having to run to some back room to ask the "manager".. I said ok ill buy it.. we went sat down did the paper work I paid the price he asked, plusd the taxes, and the lic plate cost and left a happy customer..why cant it still be like that?? I asked a salesman a price on a used truck and he would not tell me until I filled in a form with my name adress etc called a cust. sheet.. If this is what buying a newe car is all about now ill be sticking to used from now on...

Buying a new car is a waste of money anyway. The minute you drive it out of the lot, it's worth decreased with $5000.

I actually enjoy dickering with car salesmen. I agree the fine print is an issue though. It's like a battle of wills.

It only goes well though if you know exactly what you want and what you're willing to pay for it. That's the best part of the Internet.

They are all snakes in the grass and hidden costs are the worst at the big name dealers.
Find something gently used, better yet hit the auction house and get a newer repo (only need 5% down).

I don't know where you are going RH, but I bought a new truck a couple months ago and had the opposite experience. Except I told them f-u at all the extra crap. "Get that sh- off my truck."

I worked in a financial institution and a guy came in to re-finance his car since it had been financed with the dealer and the rates had gone down.

Per his contract, I calculated what he should owe.

Phoned the dealer and his number was higher by a few hundred dollars then mine.
After talking with the guy for a while, I found out that the life insurance (full amount) that he had on his loan, had been the first thing his payments had paid (before any interest or capital). I told the guy that since this was a service, the law stated that this was illegal. He phoned me back later that day to confirm that what I had calculation was the correct amount. I had a vert happy customer.

I have two lifetime goals when it comes to being financial stable.

- DO NOT use credit cards
- DO NOT buy a new car if I don't have the money.

Good rules to live by, many people spend beyond their means because everyone pushes credit on us these days.

I just went through the same thing, I was shopping for a new car for my aunt. GM had a bunch of advertisements for a G6 for something like 12 grand or so. So I went down and of course the sales man couldn't find that exact car, wow what a surprise. Even if he had it was a plain Jane model, I think even the oil in the engine was extra. I of course asked for the next model up, the total came in about 19 grand 8O even with all the rebates. Such a crock of shit I tell ya.

I never buy new, I all ways go for a lease back with around 10,000 k on it. You save on the depreciation right off the bat and still get what is basically a brand new vehicle.

Not using a credit card may end up costing you more. Unless you expect to pay cash on the barrel head for everything, you could be paying a higher rate than someone who has a bullet proof rating.

You may want a card (with a very low limit) use it once a month, pay it immediately and refuse any offers to up the limit. That way if you do need a loan/mortgage there's some history and it's chock o' block full of prompt payments in full. Be careful and be smart. Credit can be a very useful tool.

Oh yeah, I hate almost all car dealers too.

The term to use is "on the road". You want to know the price on the road, everything included.

You're the boss, if they are doing something that's pissing you off, let them know, and tell them to fix it or you walk.

But buying used and paying cash is really the way to go.

Bought my wife's Malibu was purchased with 30,000 kms for 15,000.00, my f-150 had 104,000 kms and on the road  price for that was 9,500.00

No payments. Also, if you are buying used from a dealer, remember their profit margin on the used machines is much higher than their new ones. So ALWAYS lowball them with the first offer. Let THEM work to get the price back up to something fair.

EDIT This is Robair  I'm using my wife's laptop because it's on and beside me!
