Brenda Brenda: Mockingbird Mockingbird: A case of what goes around comes around? Husbands have sat in front of TV's watching every sport known to man for decades, entire weekends have been consumed with sports and husbands could be heard the nation over saying "Not now...the game's on".
And then along comes Facebook...payback's a bitch huh? They are just frustrated because they have to make their own sandwiches Yeah, they do tend to get lost when we're not always right there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZiKAskjPF8

No FB isn't ruining your marriage - it's a symptom, not a cause.
But that post about assault was pretty worrying - was that Mrs PJB or some sick joke?

Brenda Brenda: jason700 jason700: Facebook games are stupid and boring anyway... at least if she was addicted to her PS3 with uber-graphics and 50+ hrs of gameplay it would be somewhat understandable.
To you. Ever thought of the fact other people might have other ideas? you would think hey? but no! i did some follow up, and jason's right: facebook is stupid and boring. the data all lines up too. people may disagree, but that just means they like playing stupid and boring games.

Oh, totally, but what is the difference with a PS3 with uber-graphics? Isn't that just as stupid, and thus just as not justifiable/understandable?

Facebook allows for friends and family members to stay in touch, share information (news, images, videos, etc), plan for events, chat and generally communicate on their own schedules - a particularly appealing attribute for those of us with family in other time zones or odd working hours.
It's no more evil than the telephone or email, it's only more versatile, and at least it isn't entirely passive like television.
Playing the simple games seems to be a rather small part of the entire experience.
Still, if your spouse is entirely preoccupied with Facebook, World of Warcraft, Soap Operas, Second Life, ect then I don't think we can blame the medium - odds are your spouse is probably just a loser.

All of the above can just be done as easily with Email, Skype, Various Chats clients, Phone calls etc etc.
I have friends all over North American and never felt the need to FB to stay in touch with anyone or anybody.
What is a point of looking at annoying baby pictures for hours of someone you last met 20 years agao and will most probably never meet or call again, and not that you want to paticularly.
FB is a whole lotta nothing akin to a girly high school popularity contest. Not to mention most of the time spent o FB is playing silly stuff like playing farmville or doing idiotic things like poking someone, sending some virtual crap or doing silly quizes.

My wife and I are computer junkies. She's on FB playing Farmville most of the time(when she's not doing her art) and I'm either on here or playing LOTRO. The thing is, we sit beside each other so we can still talk and we make sure we always take time out of the day without our computers.

Do you know how many people can only fixate on one thing, and one thing only, and forget what is going on around them? Don't even hear others when they are talked to? Btw, Andy, you're right. FB, or whatever else, is not the cause. It's a symptom of a fatal disease.

FB is a whole lotta nothing akin to a girly high school popularity contest. Not to mention most of the time spent o FB is playing silly stuff like playing farmville or doing idiotic things like poking someone, sending some virtual crap or doing silly quizes. You're assuming that: 1) Most Facebook Friends are old acquaintances 2) The user doesn't want to know or communicate with those acquaintances 3) Gaining more Friends is the primary occupation (ie 'popularity contest') 4) Playing Games is the primary occupation and that these games are without merit The truth is that most users go on the site to engage close friends and relatives, and while millions enjoy the games and other activities, the primary occupation of those on Facebook is posting messages to one another. And even if one did find the activities on the site dull or annoying (as I do), the fact is that many people find them entertaining and engaging and use them in moderation as a social catalyst - and who can argue against that? In short, I don't think it's any sillier than being a sports fan, comic book nerd, or WWII figurine painter, except that of course, Facebook has at least the virtue of fostering communication, community and the free exchange of ideas AS WELL as being a waste of time.

I don't really see the difference between FB and CKA, actually...

I have phone numbers and email addresses of all close friends and relatives who most of the time I actually call and prefer to, rather than FB. For many of my close friends over seas. Email, Chat and Video is a much better option and work perfectly. I seriously don't find FB to be anykind of forum to keep in touch with friends and family. If I feel the need to share pictures I mail it to them. FB is useless to keep in touch. You get an email notification that some has done something on FB. You you still need to use your email. Why not just email the person directly and avoid the blasted FB in the middle in the first place. Not to mention the privacy and security issues with FB. Most of the times its some anoying idiot who wants to share a video with you or tagged you somewhere.

Your way of staying in touch with family and friends is the way you prefer, doesn't make it a better option than Facebook. I have an account on FB with very few friends and family members. I like that I can keep in touch with family and friends all in one place, and that I can look at and share pics with them.
