When you really, truely, honestly come to believe it will accomplish a God-damn THING, and somehow make you a better person for it.

In other words - when pigs fly and buzzards crap silver dollars.

IMHO.

There are many quotes about vengeance. My favouite is something from one of my buds though. I won't get into details, but he grabbed me the shoulder and said, "When did you sell your fucking brain? You're better than that." Then he gave me a slap.

That's a really good question and is very difficult to answer. There are a myriad of justifications to take revenge ranging from dishonour of a family's name to to the more understandable infliction of personal injuriy.

But the question of whether to take revenge is difficult to answer. Most, if not all religions preach that vengence is a dead end road. Furthermore, there is lot of philosophical thought on the subject of revenge and its morality.

This is essentially the same debate as the one over capital punishment. Those against it say its immoral to kill a killer becuase that's sinking to their level. On the other hand, they did kill someone, so, in a way, it's only fair.

The urge to take revenge for a wrong is a temptation that is very hard to ignore and the worse the wrong the harder it is. Will the urge ever go away? Not likely. The urge to reciprocate a wrong is one those primal emotions that cannot be easily contained.

Bah, fuck all the above, revenge is based on pure and simple hate. Fuck the politics, fuck the metaphoricals, and the astout scholars. It's all about hate. I believe their is a mathematical equation for this.

problem+hate*2=revenge

Do unto them two fold what they have done to you.

Revenge is always justified in the eyes of the madman. What you need to figure out, is if your situation justifies revenge. I personally believe that eye for an eye is bullshit, and that eye for 2 eyes is always better.

But I'm just a crazy motherfucker that way. I think you should pose this question to the fixer, he'll answer it in an honest, modest way that I cannot.

The question you have to ask yourself : Is your hate great enough for the amount of revenge you wish to exact?

Revenge is a plate best eaten cold...now saying that, you must decide weather getting even is worth all the bullshit that may come your way after.. You go do somthing, then he retaliates, and the you retaliate and it just escalates from there.. Myself I would say walk away and let some one else do something, ad it seem that the person you are mad at has a few enemies...Dont sweat it walk away

I think it all depends on the circumstance. It is better to walk away as you said RH. But there comes a time when "push comes to shove" you just have to push back. I dont condone revenge no matter how justifiable it seems at the time. But dont let anybody push you around though.

I don't know who originally said it, but it was a saying that came out of Viet Nam. It means, don't stop the course of your life to worry about something that happened or whatever happened might happen to you too.

Basically I was agreeing with whoever said that vengeance wasn't such a noble thing.

Revenge is generally a bad thing, a dead end road and all the other stuff you guys have said. But what about instances in whick it is necessary to right a wrong. Say some guy does something to you or someone close to you. This guy has done this sort of thing to other people and he will keep doing it until someone makes him pay. In those kinds of cases, where you are going to teach someone a lesson and therefore spare someone else what you've been through, I think that is when it's justified.

Well, I believe in the old saying of:
Every action creates a reaction of greater or lesser force. i have tested this on many ocasions and it's always worked out in the end.
