I have seen this story on one of the Quebec French media news broadcast.

Although, there is not much coverage on the Quebec English news website, so this is pretty much all I could find.

Anyways, there is a protest in front of the Second Cup coffee shop in Montreal because it pretty much displays its signs in English and not French.

Let me say 1st of all, of course, it does not represent all Quebecers, but this is still pretty dumb nonetheless. Those must be some separatists that have nothing else better to do. :D

I call it... overreaction. It's stupid, but francophone bigotry and linguistic racism are needlessly hyperbolic.

Nowhere. I agree that's going too far. It's just a name, not an instructions booklet.

On the other hand, note that this wasn't prompted by governmental or legal interference, but by actions by consumers themselves. One could say the company's decision not to change the name to an English-only expression is some kind of public relations attempt. They're giving their consumers what they want, even though it IS wholly unecessary.

Hem, firstly, we're not French, we speak French - big difference. Call us Québécois or French-Canadians, whatever, but we're not French.

Secondly... so, what's your point? Francophone bashing by calling us names?

Thirdly, did you use babelfish to make your translation? It's... not very good.

It'd help to know where you work, what's your job and any reason why learning an extra language thanks to it would not be a good thing.

EDIT : I'll disregard the possibility this was some kind of sarcastic metaphor for now

You are right , you are not true french..You are french Canadian..The slang(compare the the two languages) version of the original..
I am not interested in bashing just pointing out facts here..From my two years of living in Brossard to my experience from the input of other people from all over this continent I can confidently say that the french are arrogant people especially here in Canada cause they have to share with us "English " folk....The term bloc used in your governments party is on the money because it does BLOCK forward progress of this country as a whole....Now I must admit I do admire the strong bond of your community and the energy of your politicians..If Canada were to stand up for Canada the way Quebec stands up for its self this would be a better country..........So my props to the frogs..

oh and I used the translator on this site for the conversion..I cant speak jibber..
When I sit down for dinner at camp and everyone starts yakking in french my bud and I talk in pig latin.
