Makes me wonder. I received a notice from the City.
$1:
- turf on or some of the private yards of teh property exceeds 15cm (6inches)
- Weeds on the property have been observed and need to be controlled.
My neighbour has weeds in her side yard. They're chest high. Between her house and my fence. They are beginning to spread into my yard. I haven't bugged my neighbour, because I actually understand the concept of private property and property rights. I've manicured my front lawn as a courtesy to my neighbours, not due to any ordinance, but haven't mowed my back yard as often. There is no pile of dirt anywhere in my yard; so I'm not sure what they mean by "turf". I have an apple tree, the apples are falling. Can't use the push mower while apples are in the way. And my back fence on the other side is damaged, needs repair. Technically it belongs to my neighbour, but I believe a fence is shared responsibility. I purchased a couple new fence posts and acquired some fence boards from a friend. My neighbour claims her son-in-law will do the work, but I'm waiting for that to happen. So what's with this demand from the city? It isn't from either neighbour; I asked them. My neighbour with the fence hadn't mowed her front lawn recently, she said it isn't working so hoped to borrow one. So I used my push mower to mow both our front lawns.
My back yard is behind a 6-food fence, and tiny side yard is separated by an arch attached to the house with a steel gate. The one foot strip of grass in my side yard, and my back yard haven't been manicured quite so well, but that's private. Entering that without my permission constitutes "Petty Trespass" as defined by provincial law.
WTF? I sent an email to my city councillor, but got some excuse justifying the bureaucracy.
The reason I post in this thread, is I got the notice the same time as a campaign brochure. In fact, Judy's campaign literature was tucked inside the city notice. This can't be a coincidence. Threatening voters is no way to win votes. What's up with that?
