There's what the Stanleys and their neighbours claim, there's what the people from Red Pheasant claim and there's what the RCMP figure happened.

$1:
The RCMP theory

RCMP allege that the five youths tried to steal property and vehicles first from Marvin Fouhy and then Gerald Stanley, trying first to break into Fouhy's truck using the stock of the .22 rifle and that the stock broke off and was left behind.

"I believe that the group then went to Gerald Stanley's property and were interrupted by Gerald and his son Sheldon Stanley. The group attempted to flee and struck Leesa Stanley's blue Ford Escape damaging it, as well as disabling the grey 2003 Ford Escape," the document says.

"I believe that during this incident, [Colten] Boushie was in the driver's seat of the grey 2003 Ford Escape and was shot and killed by Gerald Stanley."

Were they innocents who were looking for help with a flat tire as they claimed? Doesn't sound like it. Did Boushie deserve to die? No. Does the fact that they had a loaded weapon in the vehicle play into what eventually happened? Likely.

It seems there is plenty of blame to go around for all concerned.

Based on the police summary, Kiora Wuttunee said she had been drinking for a week and was not able to remember many details. Jackson does not remember leaving the river where they were swimming and only awoke after Boushie had been shot. RCMP said that Meechance said everyone was drinking "but not really drunk" and that everyone was awake.

Oh but I remember Whitey bad !

The media is portraying the natives as innocent whose only crime was being natives, and that they were only looking for help. The farmer is made out to be someone who was spoiling to kill himself an Indian.

The RCMP narrative seems to be that they were up to no good, looking for trouble and they found it. The more one reads the less it sounds like Boushie was dead for being red, as his family and the media would have us believe. From what I've heard, there has been a long history of theft in the area, largely the result of a handful of bad apples from the reservation.

If it was just an attempted theft, Boushie in no way shape or form deserved to be shot. However, if it turns out they were intoxicated, armed and behaving in away that endangered the lives of the family, you can understand why Stanley reacted the way he did.

That being said, should Stanley be found innocent of the charge of 2nd degree murder or even manslaughter, there will be a shitstorm.

There have been a number of these incidents on the Prairies, but the media only seems to report them sporadically. Recall the guy in Alberta who caught some natives stealing the quad in his yard?

That kind of thing happens all the time, but it doesn't make the news unless it's a verified native involved. That farmer in Saskatchewan probably sees this sort of thing often, it's not until it's a native killed that the media pays attention to it.

And many people get found not guilty of the charges.

It would be nice if laws were written in Canada to protect the owners,
and stop them from being charged in the first place.

There are. Well, court decisions at least.

http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canad ... ders-court

That's how the last government decided they would rule, not through legislation, but letting the courts decide on what the constitution allowed. Police are so gun-phobic that they will recommend charges if the event involves a firearm, just to try to get more restrictions put on firearms through the courts.

It's events like this that result in incidents like the one that led to Colten Boushie's death.

http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/sask ... -1.4006672

$1:
In a night of bad decisions, it was the assault on two Good Samaritans who had stopped to help at a highway crash that drew the harshest words from the judge.

"The insane behaviour directed towards the two women that innocently stopped and offered their assistance is not only criminal but embarrassingly deplorable and worthy of society's condemnation," said Judge Brent Klause.

Klause accepted a joint sentencing submission in the case against 22-year-old Rocky Meechance and 21-year-old Cody Wuttunee. The two men are both going to prison; Meechance for four years and six months, Wuttunee for three years and 11 months.

"The aggravating factors come close to disbelief," Klause said in court.

'A spree of offences'

Klause provided a narrative of the "spree of offences" before passing sentence.

It began with the theft of an expensive sport utility vehicle in North Battleford on the night of Dec. 19, 2015. Meechance and Wuttunee, along with four youth, drove to Saskatoon and used the hot wheels to drive into various farmyards and acreages around the city, stealing and damaging property.
Ultimately they had an armed confrontation with one of the homeowners who fired a warning shot into the air when he observed an unknown vehicle in his yard," Klause said.

Shortly after, they rolled the SUV. It ended up destroyed in a ditch, on its roof, with the airbags deployed.

The Good Samaritans

Klause said two women driving by saw the wreck and stopped, "as people most often do in Saskatchewan when they see a fellow citizen in need of help."

They were confronted by the six joyriders, had a gun pointed in their faces and were variously kicked, pushed and assaulted, resulting in a concussion and cracked ribs.

Then they had their vehicle stolen and were left at the scene.

They managed to call police, who soon spotted the vehicle in Saskatoon.

The chase was on.

Saskatoon to Battleford

Klause said officers pursued the stolen vehicle across bridges and down thoroughfares in the city, with speeds exceeding 120 kilometres per hour.

The stolen auto went through four-way stops, red lights and police spike belts.

It eventually left the city headed north to Battleford on Highway 16. On that roadway, its speeds exceeded 200 km/h.

It finally stopped at a Battleford Husky station, where the occupants took off on foot. They were all arrested shortly after.

I'll bet we haven't heard the last of those two.

Be out way to early, and next time someone will die.

It's ones like this, just like those two ridiculous cows in that stolen car in Florida, where the best thing to happen would be if they drove into a deep murky pond and all drowned. They're completely feral with their genetics destroyed by fetal alcohol syndrome. They'll never contribute anything, not even to their own people, and their lives are simply pointless.
