I don't know about that. The last time someone critiqued what he has already accomplished he complained that it was "unfair".

New Angus Reid poll out that has the CPC at 40% nationally, with the Liberals trailing with a poor 26%. In Ontario, it's 42% for the CPC, and 32% for the LPC. In Quebec, the BQ has 38%, and both the LPC and CPC hold 22% support.

Critiqued or attacked, with the conservatives now it's really hard to tell the difference. I've been around a while and this is the most agressive campaigning I've ever seen.
I'm also an Amercian citizen and I've seen how negative campaigning down there has screwed up politics. It's too bad that Harper has imported it here the way he has.

Really? More aggressive than this?

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Call it what you want, but the Conservative anti-Dion attack ads have been extremely tame by comparison, and that is an objective fact.
As for the most recent poll:
http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/index.c ... emID/14905
$1: Canadian Conservatives Reach 40% Mark
The Conservative party holds a 14-point lead in Canada, according to a poll by Angus Reid Strategies. 40 per cent of decided voters would support the Tories in the next election to the House of Commons.
The Liberal party is second with 26 per cent, followed by the New Democratic Party (NDP) with 15 per cent, the Bloc Québécois with 10 per cent, and the Green party with eight per cent.
In Quebec, the Bloc has the support of 38 per cent of decided voters, with the Conservatives and Liberals tied for second place with 22 per cent. In Ontario, the governing party holds a ten-point advantage over the official opposition. The Tories are the most popular political organization in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, while the Grits are barely ahead in Atlantic Canada.
Canadians renewed the House of Commons in January 2006. The Conservative party—led by Stephen Harper—received 36.3 per cent of the vote, and secured 124 seats in the 308-member lower house. Harper leads a minority administration after more than 12 years of government by the Liberal party. In December 2006, former environment minister Stéphane Dion became the new leader of the Liberals.
Yesterday, Dion said the Tories have an early election in mind, adding, "Otherwise, why they would come with these negative ads about me? It’s what they want to do. They want to rush in an election."
Polling Data
If a federal election were held tomorrow, which one of the following parties would you vote for?
The Conservative Party, led by Stephen Harper 40% The Liberal Party, led by Stéphane Dion 26% The New Democratic Party (NDP), led by Jack Layton 15% The Bloc Quebecois, led by Gilles Duceppe 10% The Green Party, led by Elizabeth May 8% Or, some other party 1%
I'm personally predisposed to be a little suspicious of these polls. As little as two weeks ago, the Conservatives had, at best, a two-point lead over the Liberals. Now this? A 12-point jump in as many days is a little much for me to broker absolute faith in.
It is, however, cause for confidence.

Why, back in the good old Chretien days, he'd just have a hunting accident in his living room...

He's brought it to a new level.
Running non-stop attack adds against Dion before an election is even called and making unbased claims that the Liberals are connected to terrorism just to pump his points up.

How the Liberals can get rid of Dion.
Lighten up, it's a joke.
You don't recall that comment used by one of the witnesses during the Gomery inquiry? What kind of pundit are you anyways?

Sorry Doug but these ads were neither non-stop or unbased. I've seen one, and even then I think I saw it on youtube. It was the one where Dion cries like a girl and says that's unfair. There was nothing in that ad that was untrue. Apparently Canadians are agreeing.

He didn't say the ads were baseless, he said the accusations of terrorist links were baseless.
Which they are.

Like I said I've been around for a while and I've never seen a more extensive attack campaign run against an Oppostition leader outside-and even possibly during- an election.
I don't follow the NFL anymore, but I've heard that Harper even bought a very expensive Super Bowl slot as part of the campaign. I've never been a member of a party before, hell a don't usually vote, but what I've been seeing disturbs me so much I've joined the Liberal Party.
I believe in nothing coming out of the conservative party now.
Is winning at any cost worth the long term damage this kind of behaviour will do to the political landscape of Canada?

Can Conservatives answer any question about their own party/government without referring to another party/government?
