Unless one has lived in a Northern community, one has no idea as to how important bush meat and fish are to the people’s health and well-being. It’s either whitefish, moose meat or hotdogs from the Northern. Gardening (big time) was going out of style in the ‘80-90’s but is coming back as people begin to understand the importance of good nutrition.

But the natives understand how to harvest without damaging nature..... My ass... Poaching, selling and everything else.
Gill nets across Salmon runs, picking salmon out of the river while spawning.

In response to native over fishing, over hunting. Being able to do what they want, when they want, how they want.
Also against all the BS from the media saying how they are the stewards of the land yet they slaughter whole sale and do not care about the land anymore than anyone else. Against mines, against oil pipelines, well until they get enough $$$ then it is ok with Mother Earth.
The herds are being slaughtered and yet they assume no responsibility.

The herds are being slaughtered and yet they assume no responsibility. I don’t have a lot of time explaining stuff to someone who presents with such seemingly racist BS. I lived for about 40 years in an aboriginal community and saw little of what you are speaking of. People tend to take what they need and no more. The indigenous people have asked for local management boards and have been ignored. Some places have succeeded like https://arctic-caribou.com/. Not the herd Doc was talking about, but one in Nunavut (which once in about every 30 years or so, migrates as far south as where I lived) Burning huge tracts of Taiga ( to make prospecting easier) just about destroyed the herd. That management board worked hard to bring them back. Fish in the large lake I lived on were decimated by commercial fishing to feed mink ranches. Now that they are gone the locals fish for family food and are employed in a small way in a commercial fishery. I’m sure someone with your mindset can come up with numerous crimes by indigenous hunters, but you seem to ignore the real causes of wildlife decline. And, by the way, Doc was talking about a caribou herds inability to migrate due to loss of sea ice. Good luck pinning that on the Inuit.

I've lived in the North, and I know how the cycle changes with the season. Caribou, seal, char. Even going under the ice for mussels, in the right season. That the thing about grocery stores. Theirs walk on four legs. If they aren't around, there aren't any groceries.

Oh good grief, because I think and know, I have seen it with my own eyes. Ivey Green provincial park - before it was "returned". You can see this style of fishing in BC every year.
You can see them night hunting, using lights to flash the game.
So because I think differently than you I am racist, ahhh the calling card of the Liberals. You think differently so you are racist, calling people that has lost all meaning as I doubt you even know what it means to be racist any more.
I can pin that one many people all over the world, countries that produce tons of waste. I think that is universal.
Sorry, I have seen these commercial fishing operations, they decimate stocks and you can see it for yourself just driving by any reservation in BC selling the "surplus" fish.
The indigenous are ignored because they keep asking for more and more and more. Build me a house, build me a well, build me this and that. Send more money. Rather than build and buy own houses. No water? Build a well for your house, like everyone else. Federal payments should stop, native rights should end.
Make all Canadian equal. If any nation wants to separate then let them. Raise own taxes, create own currency, control own borders.
The very idea of a nation in a nation is BS, you are either part of the whole or not.
I think natives are intelligent and able to do anything they set their minds too. The ones that fail are the same as anyone else they choose their own paths daily and some choose to excel and others choose to fail.

Only suggestion I have is for you to read up on what the Treaty’s Are and how the SCC have interpreted them.

Tricks Tricks: Dragontail69 Dragontail69: So because I think differently than you I am racist Actually I think it's more because of your seemingly intense dislike of natives. More the fact that he attributes to all first nations what is likely the work of a select few. Every group has their bad apples, and judging the whole group by the minority is actually the definition of racism. In all my time up north, I never saw anyone take what they didn't need from the land. If they caught more than the could use, it was because it was to give to the rest of the community. Two or three go hunting, everyone eats. Nothing was wasted.

Some typical misinformation here. Firstly, First nations are the responsibility of the Federal Government. Section 35 of the Constitution states aboriginal rights, and Regina v Sparrow defined those rights and how they apply. They are not allowed to build houses or water or roads, by law. The federal government must do that for them. But the federal government doesn't. For example, in these Covid times, first nations have been given the right for community healthcare. But the feds say it must be delivered in a separate building. And the feds are not allocating money to build that separate building. For many first nations that means they don't get the healthcare. If you want them to be part of the whole, they should be treated like everyone else. Otherwise, there is no incentive for them to be part of the bigger community. First Nations housing not keeping up with demandEnforce building code on reserves, officials urge Aboriginal Affairs MinisterOttawa still failing to provide adequate health care on reserves: reporthttp://caid.ca/heal_infra.htmlDragontail69 Dragontail69: I think natives are intelligent and able to do anything they set their minds too. The ones that fail are the same as anyone else they choose their own paths daily and some choose to excel and others choose to fail. That you think failure is a choice, instead of the intended way reserves are designed shows you have not been paying attention.
