Quebec's Education Ministry is trying to find out how many people its plan to ban teachers from wearing religious symbols will affect.

If done fairly and equitably the ban will affect all of them.

...Except the ones that don't wear religious symbols.

Minor note for something Quebecois might be unaware of - in the English part of the country "CAQ" is pronounced "cack". As in "what's that dog cack of a Quebec government up to these days?".

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Quebec hasn't signed the Constitution.

Yes, it signed it. Quebec was one of the four provinces creating Canada with the British North America Act in 1867. The Constitution Act of 1982 changed a lot of things (patriation, Bill of Rights, etc), but they were still amendments to the BNA Act, the Constitution Act of Canada.

Désolé à tous les PQuistes ;)

And they have not signed the The Constitution Act of 1982 since it was bravely ripped out of the hands of British Parliament and expatriated to Canada.

Every other province has.

It better be. Pastafarianism was invented because of obvious things like this, where a supposedly secular government is interested in information about the religions of their employees. But knowing Quebec like I do, it'll only be the Papists that are considered 'real' religion, and all other symbols will be frowned upon.

Now we'll have the argument: is it a religious symbol or is it cultural? I know that in Italy, the argument was once made that the crucifix was more a cultural symbol than a religious one.

Me, I'd wear a cross and if they told me to take it off, I'd tell them that it isn't a cross, it's the letter 't'.

It can be both. A person could also wear an Anhk, and it could be both fashion to some, and religious to others. It can be cultural as well, if the culture was intertwined with religion.

Which is exactly why our ancestors decided that government should be secular.

If I wore a cross, there would be a faint hissing and wisps of smoke from where it touched me.

Our pasta, who art in a colander, draining be your noodles. Thy noodle come, Thy sauce be yum, on top some grated Parmesan. Give us this day, our garlic bread, …and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trample on our lawns. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us some pizza, for thine is the meatball, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. R’amen.

Is that baby dinosaur in Pastafar's lap the same one Jesus is going to ride to victory when the Rapture happens? Will Jesus be played by Kirk Cameron in the movie version?
