Took our youngest to see Para Norman last night. It was really good. For fans of the horror genre, there were lots of humerous references. Not a movie for really young children though. Moms and dads will enjoy it though.

bootlegga bootlegga:
I saw Expendables 2 over the weekend and it was very similar to the first one - lots of explosions, automatic weapons fire, death & mayhem, and of course, camp and fromage. Arnie and Willis get a fair bit more screen time (and steal each other's line on occasion) in this one and the additions of Norris and Van Damme were campy fun.

Basically, if you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one too.

I still don't get why people were expecting more, the movie is marketed to be just that, the plot is just there so that there is even a little bit of a reason for the explosions.

I also enjoyed Skyline, especially the ending. Humanity lost the war, no super duper secret weapon, no virus bomb, no military comeback, we just lost. Now that is a peice of originality we haven't seen in I can't remember how long.

Xerxes does have a point. Changing the invasion premise for the new Red Dawn does make sense. China is a VERY BIG market for the yanks, and it's pretty sure the ruling comm party would've pulled the plug for that film in their theaters, thus losing out on a huge overseas market. Business related descision.

Skyline was kind of hard to follow but it was good, Red Dawn's getting a remake?

This came out December 2011 but I don't care, The Darkest Hour was an amazing movie.

Saw the new Judge Dredd today. It was pretty ok. Obviously not too long on dialogue, but it was fast-paced with no low points in the movie. The visual effects are good, but the 3D is rarely used. Lena Hedley is still good at playing the Queen Bitch.

It's not classic though. It feels like the kind of movie you'll see on TV in two years on a Saturday afternoon.

Ok, I finally got to see Batman the Dark Knight Rises. Am I the only person who was a bit disappointed with it?

Something’s kind of surprised me such as Tom Hardy's portrayal of Bane. I didn't think I'd like how Bane was portrayed from what I had seen on the trailers but I have to say he did a great job. Catwoman? Well I think most guys will agree that one kind of speaks for itself (Anne Hathaway + catsuit + Batbike = :D )

Other than that thought I thought the movie was a bit flat. The action sequences were pretty limited, not much in the way of new "Bat Tech" other than the batwing, and I think Nolan over did it on making Batman seem vulnerable. :?

Saw Skyfall last night. It was damned good.

I also saw The Man With the Iron Fists last week. It wasn't bad. The fights were sweet but short. And amazingly enough, despite half the scenes in the movie take place inside a whorehouse, there is no nudity.

It's an interesting take on zombies. They're more like the birds from Hitchcock's The Birds; a collective mind acting as one.

Actually, I thought it was the best of the trilogy.

I liked it a little better than the first and much, much more than the last one. I thought the action scenes were great, though the plot was a little dumb - who sends their entire police force into the sewers? I also thought Bane's endless supply of bad guys was a little unbelieveable, but overall, the action scenes, the set pieces (the stadium and bridges blowing, etc) were all really well done IMHO.

That looks awesome (I saw the teaser just after Halloween, but not the full trailer), but there is a ton of fans of the book online that are pissed off that it doesn't follow it closer.

The book has the war in the past, while this movie looks like the war is in the present. Of course, it would be easy to do the whole thing as a super long flashback...

If you're a zombie fan, it's pretty much a must read.

The book is interesting - it's a series of short stories that all have a common theme World War Z (Z for zombie of course). The format is a notebook/diary of a journalist who is documenting mankind's victory over the zombie plague 10 years after the fact, and everything is in past tense.
