I am sorry she has to clean houses for $4/hr. She can do way better than that.

I remember a grat story about the guy who owned 'The Big Slice' in TO.

He got robbed, +- 200,000 smackers gone, under the mattress.


Next week, the banks were falling over themselves to loan him money.

I know someone close to my family that does the same thing, just because he doesn't want to pay the 5$ monthly fee of having an account. Dangerous thing to do if his place goes up in flames, or if the wrong person finds out.

It is a very dangerous thing to keep money at home. Eventually someone will find out about it and it makes you a target for a thief.

Someone i know had their house robbed. They did not take a darn thing, not the TVs or the stereo or the computers or the jewelery. All they took was the wall safe. The thieves made the effort and took the time to bust the wall around the safe and took that with them. They knew it was worth the effort.

During the police investigation the homeowners were made to feel like the criminals. Why would they keep cash at home? Why not deposit it? Where exactly did this money come from?

Cash is not insurable and in the end they were out a lot of $$$ but the money was only one part of what they lost. They were left with a horrible feeling of not being trusted by the police, their neighbours started to gossip and they never felt safe in their own home.

Least if you are gonna keep your savings at home, take the money and buy gold and silver. 10 000 grand was almost enough to buy a 1 pound bar of gold.

If she cleans houses for $4 an hour there is more than just this crime taking place. Minimum wage in Alberta is $8.80/hour.

I had a great aunt and uncle that never used a bank. Their part of the family had been here for over 300 years and none of them trusted banks. Kept the money stashed in walls and inside furniture. Some contractors were doing some work in the house once and made off with over $25k they found. They were broken into many times but the theives never found any of the stash. They even walked right by a 2 foot tall cast iron cat not knowing that it was hollow and was packed full of silver.

Keeping the money under a pillow is slightly less intelligent.
