Maybe "Rich" may not be the best word to use.

But those who make enough that they could pay for medical procedures without going into debt like a lot of Americans do are the ones I consider more well off than the average canadaian.

I do not mind paying taxes as long as I know it is going to the things I value in canada such as universal Healthcare.

All I am saying is look at the history of our country.

My thinking may be a bit left of centre, but if it means good for all instead of the rich, than so be it!!!!!

Look at the history of Ontario. By your logic we shouldn't trust the NDP.

Hey Schleihauf

Just because I do not support the right wing, pro big business policies of the Conservatives, does not label me as someone who belives in left wing policies only.

I support some of the Liberal policies as well, which balance both right wing as well as left wing policies if you look closely at their beliefs.

The NDP may have not done a great job in Ontario, but they have governed in other areas of Canada, especially out west.

Who really says that they would do any worse than the Liberals or conservatives?

AS long as policies from these parties support my beliefs in doing good for all, and not only those upper class big business supporters, than that is fine with me. [rtfm]

Canada is becoming more socialist and anti-American about as much as the United States is becoming more fascist and anti-democratic, which means neither is happening at all. A few neo-hippies and Chomskyite assholes getting their heads whacked for acting up outside the Republican convention is hardly the equivalent to Krystalnacht, and most reasonable people know it. It's practically identical in that most reasonable and thoughtful people know that the spectacle of a cheerleader national media jamming their disgusting non-objective brown-noser lips up against the asses of Taliban Jack Layton or Beaverface Liz May hardly means that the majority of Canadians are getting all prepped to joyfully sing out the Internationale after the election results come in. Stuff like this being promulgated is about as much based in truth as the fucking X-Files were. Instead of seeing reality for what it is some people who spend way too much time on their computers just can't help themselves from puking out as much unfounded and baseless hyperbole and hysteria as they can muster. It's a weird fucked-up thing but most humans are weird and fucked up anyway so unfortunately there's no escaping it. Pox on the intarwebz for making it easier to spread around though.

How about that? Another one for the good guys! 8)

Never said you did.

The Conservatives may have not done a great job under Mulroney, but they have governed in other times of Canada, especially around confederation.

Who really says that they would do any worse than the Liberals or NDP?

I'm lower middle class and Conservatives also help me.

2 more major US Financial Institutions are failing, Merril Lynch and Lehman Brothers. 2 others, Washington Mutual and AIG seem close behind. Forgive me for rejecting Americanization.

Banks don't fail in other countries?

The credit crunch is a result of poor regulation in the sub-prime mortgage market. Banks took risks they shouldn't have and now are paying. Bank of America is purchasing Merril Lynch and Lehman Brothers is heading to bankruptcy.

America isn't going anywhere unfortunatly, we'll be back where we were 8 years ago.

The biggest fear I have of Obama is his protectionist streak, protectionism would really destroy the economy of the world, the same would happen in Canada. McCain doesn't understand economics either so we're screwed both ways. Pity the Libertarians have no chance of winning. Bob Barr for President!

Distraction. The banks in the US that are failing are failing because they overdid it on bad mortgages they never should have been allowed to offer. That American deregulation hasn't happened here, and thank god for that.

Sure they do. The difference here is that it's a systemic problem brought about by a Political system that chose a poor Leader twice. Even after 8 years of poor Leadership, Americans are once again flirting with the continuation of that same Government. If they had any balls, they'd give the Republicans a swift kick in the nads and send a message.

We're the same as we've been for the past 50 years. If anything, we're less anti-American than we were prior to WW2. Before WW2, both of us had invasion plans for each other and the rhetoric was pretty thick at times. These days, we're military allies and economic partners.

tritium tritium:

Maybe what you consider American Imperialism, can be looked at as American Patriotism from a U.S. Citizens point of view.

Conversely, your view of Canadian 'anti-Americanism' could be construed as Canadian patriotism from a Canadian's POV...

I have been surfing this forum and a few others and notice that Canada is starting to become more Socialist & Anti-American.

Hell, even Americans are starting to become Socialist, with the push to Obamafascism.

Is it just me.. or does anyone else notice this??

NDP and Green Party gaining ground..

The next time you start a thread like this can you please first learn what Socialism actually is both as an ideology and in practice because how we run things here in Canada is not at all close to what Socialism would actually look like and neither is what is in Obama's campaign platform.

I am tired of seeing your cavalier use of terms you obviously don't understand and an unwillingness to learn apart from a recitation of the usual right-wing definitions which equate Socialism with any policy to the left of Mussolini.

I'll start off your lesson with a freebie; the last US presidential candidate who actually ran on a platform of Socialism was Eugene Debs. The year was 1912 and he received almost 1 million votes even though he was in jail at the time.
