Seems how there are no "Outdoors" specific type of forums, Trevor suggested talking about it here, where do you guys camp in Ontario? Are you a cosy camper IE have to be plugged in and have all the comforts of home or do you rough it and head deep into the woods? I like Algonquin and head into the interior, canoe and fishing rod in hand. Recently purchased a Hennessey Hammock, set it up on my patio CAN'T WAIT to try it out for real, awesome for those who like to sleep under the stars yet still be protected from bugs and the weather http://www.hennessyhammock.com/ highly recommend
What about fishing, any trips planned for this year?

NOW THAT'S A HAMMOCK! And not expensive either!
We're big campers. In Ontario, we only went to a few places. Algonquin PArk, Bon Echo and Sharbot Bay (I think it's Sharbot Bay).
When we're in the US we had a favourite spot at Racoon Park, Pa. It was a tad bit commercial for me but it was close by so it wasn't a big deal to take off for the weekend.
We're tent goers. I felt like a sell out when the misses made me buy a propane stove.
I think I may try some of the fishing over here in Bosnia. They have some really BIG and STRANGE types of fish and the water is crstal clear and clean. I just have to watch my step...that's all.

When we lived in Ontario when I was a child we used to go to 'Red Pine Camp' every summer. I have a lot of great memories there. Does anyone know if it's still around? I'm not exactly sure where in Ontario it is as I was only about 5 to 8 when we would go.

I've camped all over Ontario. Some great fishing to be had in Temagami, Espanola, Georgian Bay, French River. Usually just find a deserted island to set up the tent and build a fire pit. Almost never camped at an actual campground. Only a few times.

Bon Echo, Sandbanks (though only for the beach; their campgrounds aren't up to snuff), and there's a little Provincial Park that I always loved as a kid, it's called Charleston Lake and they've got some of the best family activities you can imagine.

I realize this is an old post but hey! I'm new here and missed it the first time but as we are heading into spring..... I can add to this: Highly recommend Ivanhoe Lake campsite #92 (I believe) It's on the lake with a sandy lot and direct access to the water which is ideal if you have canoe or just want a morning swim. Lake Ontario of course is a must see - check out Old Woman Bay for a day trip/swim/picnic. The drive alone is worth the trip to the park. Charleston Lake is great except in May--I have an adventurous boyfriend, at least he was until we were floating at one in the morning!
Parks in the interior or cottage country tend to be overcrowded with those who wish they stayed in the city for their holidays. You know, the tv, radio, generator and unsupervised children type whereas I am the chopping firewood, digging a toilet trench, outdoor shower type. I tend to avoid those places, unfortunately not until I have stayed there once.
This past summer was the worst ever in my camping history. I have camped across eastern Canada, and the united states but cottage country this past summer was a complete right off. Noise--such as a wedding celebration across the river from a campground that was still going when we packed up at 4:00am because we weren't sleeping anyway. Overcrowded--provincial campgrounds have got to take serious campers seriously and stop filling up to the brim or at least double the size of the lots! Kids and dogs--both require adult supervision even on holidays! Kind of tired following the rules with both of mine just to be subjected to annoyance from those who don't. (Actually was stalked by a German Shepherd at the Pinery)
So there ya go, my two cents free of charge. Happy Camping!

I went to Yuk Yuk's in Niagara Falls one time and the comedian was going on that there was actually a word for having sex with a corpse, necrophelia. Then he says there's actually a word for going into the woods and drinking - it's "camping". More to my taste is don't take your girl friend or wife deep into the woods, find a camp site that you can park the car beside and is near the communial shower. These deep woods aventures are a recipe for maritial discord. Been to Alogonguin for 30 years in a row. My honeymoon was in the Park, albiet at an resort.

Charleston Lake is one of my faves, but the mussells are taking over and you cannot climb up the jumping rocks without getting all cut up now.
