It was tense. I caught the penalty kicks at work on the sly. Very nerve wracking but it was great to see our girls get the gold.

Get your kids to play soccer and go to the games. You won't think that it is boring any more. The game takes a tremendous amount of skill and teamwork. Its a low scoring game like hockey. When a team has to put that much effort and teamwork into scoring a single goal.......every goal is a much bigger deal than a high scoring game like basketball. Watching a soccer game about a team that you care about is emotionally draining, win or lose.

Nah, my daughter played it for a year and didn't care much for organized soccer either, although she enjoys playing it with friends at school during lunchtime.

I believe that soccer isn't popular with most Canadians and Americans because we prefer power-based sports such as basketball, baseball, hockey and our version of football. Soccer is simply to slow paced and more endurance based than the other more popular sports here.

If Canada ever gets into the World Cup again, I'll give it another try, but as that's unlikely, if I watch sports, it'll be the faster more exciting ones rather than soccer.
