I joined the Liberal Party in the 80s and worked on a local candidate's campaign but did not attend the policy convention due to a schedule conflict. I let my membership lapse under John Turner but renewed it under Jean Chretien. Once the internal "war" began from the Martin camp I was quite disenchanted with where things were headed and parked my vote with the Greens. I am no longer active within the party and do not feel inspired to become so again. I live in a safe liberal riding. I did, however have a face to face meeting with the Conservative candidate in the last federal election. His sincerity was evident but I did not come away reassured by the Conservative's sincerity in their own commitments, particularly in the realm of Same Sex Marriage. They were, at that point, lacking in policy having no experience yet in government.

He did NOT wish to discuss Carolyn Parrish or the way in which the previous candidate was summarily shunted aside for him and the lawsuit that ensued from the former candidate regarding the money he was paid to stand aside.


Maggiemygosh's assertion aside, many liberals do actively seek out "the other opinion." Anyone take the time to actually meet and talk with Liberal AND Conservative candidates? NDP candidate Monia Mazigh declined (something that I was not shy about letting be known.)

Specifically I'm curious as to whether Maggiemygosh bothered to talk to more than one (if any) candidates.

I find it is quite the opposite of his/her assertion. Liberal minds are more open than Conservatives who prefer to "discuss" trhings by making wildly hysterical accusations. Just my opinion based upon what I've read here.

There are times in everyman’s life when he is tested by extraordinary obstacles and scenarios. But there are other ways to deal with the problems of life. Therapy and counselling, alcohol, drugs and suicide are but some of the more palatable and less damaging ways to address these issues then joining the liberal party.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to you during this very difficult period in your life.

Congrats but I have to agree with figfarmer the Liberals need a strong leader to make a comeback and from my park bench they don't have a viable canadate. None of the current front runners would get my vote.

I could see if you are from Ontario or Quebec you are from Vancouver what exactly has the liberal party done for this city or even British Columbia? Not much or even for anyone in western Canada. I find it mind boggling that anyone would actually support them out here other than the visible minorities well lets face it they let them in so they vote for them it is a tradition.

I could see the NDP over the liberals although their party is so out there now I do not think anyone should consider throwing support for them. The green party actually seems more sensible now. Although knowing vancouverites they will believe whatever is spoon-fed to them so that is where the liberals probably come in. I feel sorry for you Canadaka you actually bought into it.

Congrats Trev! Like Pluggy said, it's good to see people involved in the process.

I myself have never joined a party, though I've voted for both the Cons and Libs in past elections. Sadly, neither party reflects my true political opinion (I like the Cons pro-defence policies and the Liberals social policies), so I refuse to give either one my full support. The NDP, well, they are simply too far left for me to ever consider voting for them at the federal level.
