In 2005 it makes more sense to never change the freakin' time, and if that was what the change was to I'd cheer. Other than that it's just the Yanks trying to change things because they can. I'm sick of that. We trade with a lot of other countries and don't change our clocks to suit them.

I'd also like to point out that we are never all of Canada the same as all of the US as we both have a few time zones, so it doesn't really put us more in step with them anyhow.

Did I mention that it's a stupid assed idea?

all of our computers are set to change back and forth automatically. This idea is more disruptive than Y2K was supposed to be.

Hey I know what would simplify things! Instead of changing the clocks, change everyone's work hours! Instead of working 9-5 you would work 10-6. Dinner would now be at 7 instead of 6. News at 11 would then be News at midnight.

See how easy that would be?!

PS: still think Sask, springs back and falls ahead

Not sure if this has been addressed or not but as someone else stated, Sask doesn't change ahead or back, it stays the same.

This is actually the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the news of this.

At first I thought that if we didn't follow the Yanks in this gesture we would be economically sk-rewed. But then again, what's the difference? it'd be like a north-south time-zone, really. The idea in general that changing DST at ALL is going to save energy is a waste of administrative time and won't work, I agree with that. In Canada we only have, what, 4 hours of daylight in the winter anyway lol

Centre, Center: I was actually having this exact discussion the other day. I came to the conclusion that in Canadian English (at least), "centre" is used in a social sense (commercial centre, city centre, centre for disease control) and center is used in a geographic sense (he stands at the center of the centre, the US thinks they're the center of the earth) If anyone can find a grammatical rule to confirm or deny that I'd be delighted to hear it :) I think it's one of those lame rules like 'practise' and 'practice'.

If Americans jump off a bridge should we follow them? When they say jump do we ask how high?

Centre, honour (all the 'our' words), and practise are just the British (and Canadian) spellings. I don't think the varient forms (center, honor, practice) have different meanings.

We say, "How high, if it's not too much trouble, big boss man?"

....then we curse the hell out of them and their country and do whatever we want when they aren't looking

Hey Spike, I understand about the word centre, but I just spell it this way all the time, because it's a habit...it's centre in French too only it's pronounced cooler... lol
