figfarmer figfarmer:
all of our computers are set to change back and forth automatically. This idea is more disruptive than Y2K was supposed to be.
This is actually the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the news of this.
At first I thought that if we didn't follow the Yanks in this gesture we would be economically sk-rewed. But then again, what's the difference? it'd be like a north-south time-zone, really. The idea in general that changing DST at ALL is going to save energy is a waste of administrative time and won't work, I agree with that.

In Canada we only have, what, 4 hours of daylight in the winter anyway lol
Centre, Center: I was actually having this exact discussion the other day. I came to the conclusion that in Canadian English (at least), "centre" is used in a social sense (commercial centre, city centre, centre for disease control) and center is used in a geographic sense (he stands at the center of the centre, the US thinks they're the center of the earth) If anyone can find a grammatical rule to confirm or deny that I'd be delighted to hear it

I think it's one of those lame rules like 'practise' and 'practice'.
