When China becomes the major player in the markets do we change our time to China's time?

Maybe if we shared the same latitude...
(China, however, happens to be on the other side of the world.)

Congress believes the extension would trim energy costs by cutting the need for artificial light in the evenings.

Wtf?! Are they actually so dumb that they think changing the position of the hour and minute hands on a clock changes the position of the earth going around the sun?

It's like we're back in the dark ages.. except now we've got clerics declaring that the universe revolves around the United States! [?]

lol... it has to do with the amount of daylight hours people are awake for. read the article. its the same reason that daylight savings time got invented in the first place.. there are lots of things that i think we should no coincide with the states on but as far as this goes.. whats the big deal.. keep everything in sync.. makes the most sense.

Nice to see the US Congress working on the most important of matters. Instead of promoting more energy conservation the usual ways (energy-efficient products, more fuel-efficient cars, etc), they're going to screw around with the clocks.

I really hate to agree with you but you are absolutely right.

How exactly is syncronizing our clocks to the opposite side of the earth equivalent to syncronizing them within the same continent?

If Canada decides not to follow the States, then we would only be out of sync for two months. It may complecate things business wise a little, but I think we could handle that.

Both countries already cope with different time zones so I don't see foresee this as being that big a pain in the butt.
Out here it just means that hockey will be on even earlier. Maybe even all sports!!! Monday Night Football would be over by 8. Which is my bedtime - PERFECT!!

True, but if you work full-time or in the evenings, you'll miss some hockey games...

What I took him to mean is that Canada is synchronizing with the market player - be it the USA or maybe China someday is what he means.

Canada should not have to do either.

Arizona and Hawai'i don't play this crap and I wish California didn't but, well, it is California after all.
