Very sad, only 25 years old. Her boyfriend was another policeman who was there at her side when she died. :(

The Police make my job seem easy. You can't have enough respect for those who chose this profession and love their job.
My condolences to her family and friends, and to the Laval Police force.

True. There is a great risk in that profession. They deserve the utmost respect.

Cops aren't even safe from stalkers, you can imagine how safe the rest of us are. It's a damn shame.

I have a sadder news. Valerie is my friend's immediate neighbour. My friend and her husband are also police officers. I received their calls yesterday.

L'enterrement sera le 21 décembre à Laval.

I watched a news report of this tragic story and was angered by an interview that was done on one of the neighbours of the suspect. In the interview, a young woman stated that she had had conversations with the man whereby he had said that if he could get his hands on a rifle, he would act out his anger towards society. It is disturbing that even though information was brought to someone's attention about this man's instability, no measures were taken to address them.
Moreover, the man had been arrested for harrassing a female police officer one week prior and was allowed to posses a firearm while currently under a 10 year ban on firearms.
I know that it was impossible for the neighbour of the suspect to have known how very real a threat this man was, but all of these facts together; his remarks, his purchase of an elephant gun while under a ten year ban, and his harrassment of female officers, should have lead to the use of extreme caution in dealing with this suspect.
I think that it is our civic duty to inform authorities when we are given information by someone of their intent to cause harm to someone or to society in general. I am not saying that it would have prevented this womans death, but upon his original arrest, one week prior, a more thorough look at his mental stability may have been taken.

My heart goes out to the friends and family of this woman who died while protecting our safety.

The most glaring part of this whole tragedy is that a JUDGE allowed this piece of crap to use a rifle for hunting despite the weapons prohibition.

The suspect was convicted last Friday of Criminal Harassment against another female Officer and fined $500 , allowed access to his weapons at his surety’s house and confirmed the dispensation to allow firearm’s use for ‘hunting’ purposes only.

There had better be an inquest on this, our Judges need to be as accountable as the police are.
This judge has the blood of this 25 year Officer on his or her hands.

I am very angry about this. Oh, by the way, the weapon was registered and this idiot had an FAC.

The justice system in action.

Maybe Paul Martin will ban something else? Or is this the yanks fault?
