Had a pit great dog wonderful friend.
Some of the people shouldn’t have any kind of pet.
And the breeders should be controlled no back yard kennels.
Better control not a ban.

All of the more recent attacks seem to happen when there is two or more Pitbulls togeather. Maybe Ontario should limit how many Pitbulls you can own.

I'm not sure about this law. I own an Akita and that breed can be quite dog agressive. Not too many accounts of problems with people attacks, but pit bulls are very well known for attacks on people. Although I'm sure most pit bulls will never be involved in an attack on a person, they are very capable of it. More so than other breeds. Now if we can't be assured that they can be controled or should I say their owners can't control them, I think the ban might be an idea. Or maybe jail time for an owner of a dog involved in an attack, that would go for all the large "aggressive" breeds. That might assure the owners keeping them under control.

That is a great approach put the onus on the owners.

$1:
large "aggressive" breeds

Where do you draw the line between a large aggressive dog and a large friendly dog? I have 3 large dogs, 2 great danes and a German Shepherd. All 3 really great at protecting the yard. I love having the dogs here, 'cause I know if someone jumps my fence, there is a line of defence between me and them. I think owners of dogs should be required to have propper fencing surrounding their property. A fence that the dogs can't squeeze under or jump over is the key.

I don't think you have to draw a line anywhere DMP. Someone jumps your fence and your dogs chew his ass, it's his fault not the dogs. Your dogs get out of that yard and chew on someone, it's your fault. I live in the sticks and my dogs are all on 200 ft cable runs. In 5 years they have never got off or out of the property. My one neighbor, and I mean that as I really only have one, tells me that if my dogs bark they know someone or something is around the area. We quite often get bears and such in our yards. I have no problem with people owning any type of dog, but if you have one of the aggressive breeds you must take responsibility for it and make sure it can't hurt anyone. Why not make that include jail time for owners of dogs involved with a serious attack?

You've got it there QBCGuy. Its not about what type of dog anyone may have, its what type of owner a dog has. We used to live on a ranch with lots of property (all fenced) and we used to go to our SPCA and give dogs a home. At one time we had 12 dogs. Some of these dogs were so called "Aggressive dogs" when we picked them up from the SPCA, but after we took them in and actually payed attention to them and didn't abuse them (like some had been) they mellowed out and were turned into friendly lap dogs. A dog on a chain will obviously have a different personality than one that has a run.

If a guy jumps my fence, good, I won't have to give the dogs kibble tonight, they'll get their fill

It's not :)

How ever werent pitbulls only bred to fight? So why wouldn't somewhere down the line would not just out and attack someone or something. I don't think a total ban will work, but let's just limit one pitbull to one person. I also agree about holding owners resposible for their pets actions. I am a dog lover and have never not had one, however I dont let my dog menace my neighbours and I carry a bag when we walk, it's all about being responsible.

Oh, sorry, I moved the topic when DMP said that........

I agree with you Fixer, one per person might be a good idea since the pits seem to like to attack in groups.
