No link. It's been all over the news down here along with some horrid and terrfying video.

This video is not gruesome but still shows what happened:

https://www.liveleak.com/view?i=804_1501124870

Yesterday at the Ohio State Fair a ride called the 'Fireball' had a section of seats detach from it while it was moving. Witnesses who spoke to NBC News this morning reported that a young man perished shortly after being grievously injured and a young woman had her leg torn off. Two other people are also reported as in critical condition at a local hospital.

The rides at the fair are closed pending a new inspection.

That's awful.

Frankly, I've never trusted these types of rides.

Why ?

Are they too American for you ?

And why are you commenting in an American based thread ?

These are rides that are packed up and moved to different fairs so there's a lack of trust from me on those too.

Let me guess... either they'll find that there was a lack of upkeep on the ride or somebody set it up wrong on site.

Either way, it's the price of doing business, right?

The same ride at the Edmonton K-Days festival has been shut down.

Seems the ride had been inspected the day before.

You can read weekly stories in the UK about the permanent rides that
are falling apart all over the country.

It ain't just the packing and moving.

The video may not be graphic but it still is heart stopping to watch.

Four rides failed an inspection on Monday, but there were no red flags when inspectors examined the Fire Ball.
That's scary all in itself. 8O

The investigation is in its early stages, but several officials left open the possibility that the collapse was an accident with no clear blame.

"It's important to remember that amusement rides are mechanized pieces of equipment," said Ohio Department of Agriculture Director David Daniels. "They can fail from time to time."
Wonder if we'd say the same thing if this was a plane accident. 8O 8O

I have wondered too at those travelling amusement parks. Parts are bound to wear out over time after so many moves and exposure to the elements.

Terrible event to watch happen. Hopefully those that were injured are able to recover and not become additional fatalities.

I hate to say it but, the more these "ride" designers push the envelope the more these tragedies are going to happen and no amount of inspection short of x-raying every piece of equipment regularly is going to stop the carnage.

You can't engineer completely fail safe rides and it's time that the thrill seekers are made to understand the chances they're taking when they go on these potential death traps.

Here's a list of 10 Disney rides that have killed people.

Okay for those that don't know I grew up in Columbus Ohio where the fair is. Making a longer story shorter a former friend of mine was their with his son and had ridden that ride 2-3 times that day the last time about 1hr before the accident. I went there every year I lived in Columbus and even then there were some rides I refused to ride. Just didn't seem safe to me.
