I was hit by a slow moving car 2 years ago and landed on my left arm in motorbike wipeouts a couple times since and when I move my arm in certain ways I get a sharp pain. This affects my life in a big way because I do not have a good education so it pretty much limits my job choices to fast food or welfare.

To the point, I would like to hear from people that have been through similar situations and mainly if it is possible to work the arm until eventually it doesn't get these pains or if I'll just be causing myself more undue pain. I really want these pains to go away so I can get a job doing something that doesn't involve dealing with people.

Disclaimer: do not tell me to 'get a doctor's opinion' or I'll just get hostile. I hear this none stop. I don't have a family Dr. and cannot currently get one and the Doctors at the hospital are useless. They only do guess work. I feel that I could get better advice from people that have been through it.

I have been hit by a truck. It did a lot of damage, all down the right side of my body.

Nerves are difficult things to diagnose. They require conduction tests to determine the amount of damage, and you require ultrasounds, CT scans or MRI to properly diagnose internal physical damage that an external exam cannot.

If you want your car noise diagnosed, go to a mechanic. If you want a good meal, go to a chef. If you want free medical advice from the internet, it will be worth exactly what you pay for it. There is a reason everyone is telling you to got to a Doctor. If your doctor can't help you, get a different one. If you have to travel for this, do it! Nerve damage only gets worse with time, so you need intervention as soon as possible.

I have a similar problem with both my right and left arm and you're not going to like what I'm going to tell you.

The only way your problem can be located is via a nerve conduction test, combined with an ultrasound or perhaps and MRI.

To me, it sounds like you have nerve impingement somewhere in your shoulder. A nerve conduction test will pinpoint the location of the pressure on the nerves and the neurologist will advise you on further steps.

You need to see a doctor, even a walk-in doctor, and ask for a referral to a neurologist. The problem will not get better on its own.

I know what you mean about drs it took me 25 years to find someone who didn't say sucks to be you. Or my favourite from the ex ray there shouldn't be any pain. Anyway keep trying there are good ones out there that actually do listen and run test and don't try to drug you. Maybe try a walk-in instead of er if you have one in your area or a nurse practitioner. The er sees too many who are trying to get drugs. It sometimes helps to startle them into listening by saying the pain is a throbbing constant but you don't want pain pills you want answers as to why. Other than that there are a few reputable sites on line like the Mayo Clinic. It's a good reference.

In 1983 I was shot in my left knee and suffered some nerve damage. It took about ten years before I started to feel my toes again and even now I am not heat or cold sensitive below the knee. I don't feel much pain at all in the lower leg and part of my daily routine is to check everything for problems.

Upside: I can walk/hike all day and only my right foot ever feels sore.

That's the problem. I live in a small town, there is no walk-in dr's here and the family dr is booked to the tits. The only option for me is the hospital and they tell me the same useless sh*t every time.

I have both peripheral and proximal neuropathies. The last neurologist I saw at the RUH in Saskatoon was worse than useless. He basically said, 'You have this, and there's nothing I can do.'

Surely you can drive to a place that has a walk-in clinic.

If you keep going back to the same place with the same result, you may want to consider actually doing something different.

If you want to relief, you gotta go.
