I got a new job just recently working northern Saskatchewan. It was going great till yesterday! I left a store up north that had a gas station attached (filled my car up there) beside me were two big native guys in a truck filling up too. They followed me from the gas station for along time in a truck, then they past me, then slowed down, then I passed them, then they passed me again and slowed down. I was totally freaking. I then passed them again and stepped on it to 130 kms and saw in my rear veiw mirror that they turned around on the highway when I saw a semi truck in the distance in the oncoming lane heading towards me.
That experience has me a little paranoid. My heart was pounding. They were 2 big guys.
I need some help with ideas for protection while on the road doing this job. Please help with advice and something I can carry for self defence if needed.
Thanks!

Get a handgun, learn how to use it, don't tell anyone about it.
Oh a small .22 or .38, something easy to handle.

I've lived in that area before. Pick yourself up a CB for your car and find out what channels the local stores and drivers use. I may be wrong, but I beleive that channel 19 is still the emergency CB cahnnel in that area. There is also a channel that all the truckers use...man, it's been so long but I think it may be either channel 9 or 13. Actually, ignore my channel designations and ask a local once you get yourself a CB. The CB should be good for at least 2 or 3 Kms from your car and should cost you no more than $60 or $75.

Oh, I always kept a can of Bear Spray in my glove box. It was really for bears in the NWT but after a few test runs, I know it's good on regular 'ol people too!

I would like to point out that carrying an hand-gun around for the average citizen is illegal and could get you serious jail time, especially with that new conservative government some people voted in. If you're really serious about a gun, just get a shotgun and saw the long barell off.

What?? No, sawed off shotguns are illegal
The Criminal Code states that a prohibited firearm is:
a handgun with a barrel length of 105 mm (4.1 inches) or less;
a handgun designed or adapted to discharge 25 or 32 calibre ammunition;
a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make it less than 660 mm (26 inches) in overall length;
a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make the barrel length less than 457 mm (18 inches) where the overall firearm length is 660 mm (26 inches) or more;
an automatic firearm and a converted automatic firearm;
any firearm prescribed as prohibited.

Sorry to hear about your incident. The best thing in this case is to remain calm! If you feel you're being followed, pull into some residential place that is busy but do not try to out race them. Make sure you have a cell phone and advise your contacts of your destination. Also carry a bottle of pepper spray in your purse. Another good idea is to buy yourself an aerosol can noise maker, such as a fog horn (Canadian Tire, sporting goods store). A few blasts from this will scare anyone. Hope this was some help to you!
Best of luck in your new job!
