Hey all, Im sitting around bored again and got to thinking about friendship. It's usually something interesting to see other peoples take on the subject. So feel free to post what you think about the subject of friends.

I am one of those people that are friendly, but there are a few people that I just cant stand. I'll help almost anyone out and be courteous, but I dont expect the same back.

Most people find out the hard way (I sure did) that "friend" is usually just another word that's supposed to be pregnant with deep meaning but inevitably turns out to be totally empty. There isn't anyone out there who won't throw another person, even a "friend", under the wheels if they want to or think they have to.

And especially don't get too attached to the morons you party with when you're younger. They might be your drinkin' buddies but when the time comes that you need some real help or have some real problems plaguing you you'll almost certainly find out that they're not the people you think that they are. It's hard lesson to learn but the best thing anyone can do is to be as independent as possible and to avoid emotional entanglements with others who are not reliable.

Sounds like you've been stung pretty bad.

I've got a few that I'd take a bullet for. They've certainly put themselves in the line of fire for me. Of course the environment I was in pushed that make or break aspect hard.

Friends come and go. Some stay longer than others, but in the long run, you are the only one you can really and always count on... Sounds a bit bitter maybe, but that is just my experience.

I doubt that I was unluckier than anyone else. I just made bad decisions when I was young and chose to ignore some rather obvious warning signs because I was having too much fun. It's easy to think of friendship when everything's hunky-dory and the beer is flowing, but it's when the hard moments hit that you find out PDQ what's what and who's who.

I try to be nice to people but simply some people don't like me...but whatever. See my close friends tell me that im too nice, as sometimes I let people who don't really care about me, take advantage of me.

I also cant say no to friends. Like if one of my friends is like "oh hey, can you spot me on lunch and Ill pay you back" I will generally say yes. But then it turns into getting taken advantage of...
